Principal's Message

Term 3 Week 10 2022

We have another big week planned. Nothing like making up for lost time. Students are engaging in lots of different experiences and the respect and responsibility they are approaching all events is to be commended.

This week we will have a Junior Assembly with FJ presenting on Wednesday afternoon and we will also have a Whole School Assembly on Friday morning with a Junior and Senior Aussie of the Month and chance to all come together. Students and staff appreciate the time to connect across the school and Whole School Assemblies are a good opportunity to allow this.

I want to take the opportunity to wish all families  a safe and restful holiday.

Road Closures due to Water Upgrades

We are working closely with Melbourne Water as they work to renew sections of the M22 and M46 water mains which will cross Rooks Road and then continue along the pipe track towards the intersection of Canterbury and Springvale Road. There will be upcoming closures of Lorikeet Street and Mt Pleasant Road. We have made plans to address the Kiss and Drop off area and alternative pedestrian detours to support accessing the school. Further information will sent out but the link below explains the works.

Music Online Performance

At Assembly on Friday we were treated to performances by our Online Music students. The guitar group played Smoke on the Water and Keyboards played Blinding Lights with a third performance accompanied by Sophie on the flute. It is always a treat to hear from our private music students and we look forward to concerts next term.

Hats are Back

Just a reminder that our Sunsmart Policy has hats being worn from Mid August to End of April. Hats are sold with at PSW but can also be purchased from Reception for $10.00.

I.C.E. Showcase

Year 6 ICE Leaders
Year 6 ICE Leaders

Last week we finished up our Investigate, Create, Express program with our I.C.E. Showcase and what a showcase it was! We were lucky enough to watch the incredible performances put on by our AUSLAN, Contemporary Dance and Musical Theatre Ensemble groups to start off the showcase. Afterward, we had the opportunity to view the amazing creations that were developed across Term 2 and 3. For many of our students, I.C.E. is a highlight of Senior School and it would not be possible without the help of our Community Volunteers and Year 6 students. A huge thank you to;

Jackie and Karry for Jewellery Making

Rick, Jo and George for Woodwork

Amanda for AUSLAN

Ran for Craft Workshop

Eunice for Pom Pom Art and

Jennifer for Contemporary Dance

Check out Instagram for some pictures and videos from the showcase or in the foyer locate our I.C.E. wall!

Debating

We hosted the 2022 Nunawading Regional Debating Day with teams from Huntingtower, Harkaway Hills College, Templestowe Park PS, Lysterfield Lakes College. Adjudicators from the Debating Association of Victoria attended to assess the debaters.

We had 18 Year 6 students in three teams compete. It was impressive to see how well they collaborated and presented well planned arguments in their debates. Congratulations to Sukriti who was nominated speaker of the day and to Teams 1 and 3 for being undefeated all day.

Huge thank you to Cassie Brisbane for coordinating the day and the 5/6 teachers for supporting the program. Our Year 5 SRC students were guides for the visiting teams and did a great job.

The Great Book Swap

It was wonderful to see so many students happily reading and sharing the books they had chosen at our Great Book Swap on Thursday. Our lovely school community had donated so many books, students were able to exchange their gold donation for 2 books! We managed to raise almost $500 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation which will go towards providing resources to organisations in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities such as schools, libraries and play groups.

We are still accepting donations at the office from those students who may have forgotten their money on the day. A huge thanks to our amazing parent helpers for sorting through the books as well as setting up and running The Great Book Swap on the day.

Her Majesty The Queen

Australia mourns the passing of Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Australia and Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.

As a mark of mourning and respect and in accordance with protocol, the Australian National Flag should be flown at half-mast immediately and until further notice.

For 70 years, Queen Elizabeth the Second reigned as Australia’s Head of State. During her reign, The Queen visited Australia 16 times and saw more of this country than most Australians, visiting every state and territory.

The Queen consulted with 16 Prime Ministers and 16 Governors-General served in her name. She was the patron of more than 20 Australian charities and associations.

When visiting Australia in 2002, The Queen said:

For myself, I thank all Australians…I declare again…that my admiration, affection and regard for the people of Australia will remain, as it has been…constant, sure and true.’

District Athletics

We had another huge day on Wednesday 7th September with 47 senior students competing in the district athletics event. The weather made for excellent conditions on the day, with students competing in their track and field events. The sportsmanship, individual excellence and team spirit displayed by all of our students was outstanding. Every student represented and made our school proud with their individual efforts and a big thanks to all students for celebrating all results. Congratulations to the following students who progressed to Division Athletics, Ryan M, Elise M, Felix S, Grace H, Mackenzie D, Ava M, James N, Ada O, Jonas T, Ryan K, Iris B and Emilie L. A big thank you to our amazing teachers, Mrs Brisbane, Mr Burrill and Ms Richardson who worked tirelessly on the day to get students to their events on time and Mrs Butterworth for her organisation and coordination of our team.

Home Talk - School Vision

We have some amazing visuals for our school vision which are on display in the foyer. We have some very creative families at MPRPS! These pictures will stay on display and be used to help create our final school vision.

Tournament of Minds

MPRPS had 4 groups of students perform in the Tournament of Minds competition on the 20th of August at Deakin University in Burwood in the areas of Language Literature, Social Sciences, STEM and The Arts. All groups performed amazingly and were able to come up with engaging responses to their prompts! Impressively, the Arts group were able to move through to the Regional Finals, which were held at La Trobe University in Bundoora on September 11. The group, consisting of Sophie R, Ivy H, Zoe G, Brandon Land Nishtha V, spent 3 hours in a room together independently planning and preparing for their long challenge. Even more impressively, after focusing on and practising teamwork and collaboration skills, the group was able to do extremely well on their Spontaneous Challenge, achieving one of the highest scores of the day! While we unfortunately, didn’t make it through to the International Finals, all of the students involved did such an amazing job working together and had an experience that they will remember for a long time. A big thanks to Simone Rock, Kaine Jenkins and Erin Bennetts for supporting the students on the day, and all the parents for using their Sunday to give their children this opportunity.

Garden for Wildlife

On Thursday afternoon we welcomed Belinda from Gardens for Wildlife along with volunteers Tony and Katrina. They worked with us to identify some of our native plants and unwanted plants in our Land for Wildlife area in the corner of the school. In upcoming weeks and months, they will support us to find and repopulate the indigenous plants of the area in the Kitchen/Garden program.

Save the Date: Wellbeing Open Morning - 14th October
