Music

Term 3, Week 10

What a fun and productive term we’ve had in the Music Room! I’m still not quite sure how we’ve arrived at the end of term already…. time certainly flies when you’re having fun!

F - 6 Music

Using the various genres played over the loud speaker at Bell Time, students have been introduced to new genres this term, thus expanding their understanding and appreciation of music. They have explored:

  • Country Music:   instruments, line dancing
  • 1930’s-1940’s:   instrumentation, big bands, swing dancing and lindy hop
  • Duets:  students discovered that there are many types of duets – instrumental, vocal
  • Songs starting with ‘W’ – (not a genre in itself, of course, but styles within!) *Waterloo – ABBA – 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, Sweden                                       *What A Wonderful World (1969) – Louis Armstrong                                                            *With A Little Help from My Friends – The Beatles 2015 Induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame

Showbie

All songs, dances, videos used in our weekly Music lessons are added to your child’s Showbie music folder so they can share and further explore the music at home.

I encourage students to message me in Showbie and tell me what they enjoy (or don’t enjoy!)

Bell Music Song Suggestions

Students are welcome to continue adding to the folder  I love finding out what students enjoy listening to and I often incorporate it into the Bell Music playlists (and also my lessons).

F-6 Music Share

'Music Share' is an wonderful opportunity for students to share their creative talents and interests with their peers. It is not uncommon to see the surprise on students faces when their classmate begins performing an instrument they didn't even know they could play! So far this term we have seen and heard:

  • Latin, hip-hop and country dancing,
  • Solo and group instrumentalists (violin, keyboard, piano, guitar, trumpet, saxophone, flute)
  • Songs sung in Japanese and English,
  • Comedy acts and joke tellers,
  • Australian poetry,
  • Instruments made by students,
  • Compositions made on Song Maker/ Garage Band.

I commend every performer for 'having a go' and audience members for listening respectfully and displaying exemplary etiquette. Enjoy the photos below!

Term 3 Assembly Performances

Foundation

Thank you to everyone who came along to support our youngest students at assembly.

It was great to see their hard work come to fruition whether it was introducing items to an audience, singing in Chinese, demonstrating Irish dancing or performing a German folk dance!

A HUGE thank you to our Music and Band Captains, Abby and Mark, for their assistance with this term's assemblies (setting up the sound equipment, stage props etc).

Evening of Music – Wednesday 16 November - SAVE THE DATE!

Next term (week 7), the following BPS Ensembles will be performing at our illustrious 'Evening of Music' at One Community Church (opposite BPS). We are very excited about this event as it has been a while since we've had the Evening of Music 'in person' and not

via a device screen.

  • School Choir
  • Training Band
  • Concert Band
  • Symphonic Band
  • Beginner Guitar Ensemble
  • Advanced Guitar Ensemble

Book Fun Day

The Specialist Team are always keen to dress-up for Book Fun Day (or any day really!!) This year we came as items from 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle.

Wishing you all a happy, relaxing and safe holiday. See you in Term 4!

Yours in harmony,
