Principal's Report

What an action packed last couple of weeks it has been! Even without looking at the dates I'm sensing end of term-itis is well and truly upon us. Students are a bit tired, teachers are DEFINITELY tired and I'm guessing that parents are too! Yesterday I have spent some time working with Foundation H and our Year 6 classes and I am reminded by what amazing students we have and the focus on their learning is of the highest standards.

As we hit the end of the term I remind myself that there has been a lot to celebrate at the school this term.

Just to name a few of things that we have had on this term -

EARLY FINISH

Just a reminder that our last day of term is this Friday 16th September.  We finish up at 2.30pm but please do join us for a special assembly at 2pm in the gym.

STUDENT PLACEMENT 2023

During Term 4 our class teachers go through the process of placing students for the 2023 school year. Early next term your children will be nominating their 5 friendly learning partners, which they will be placed with a minimum of one of. The current year’s teachers compile class lists of students for the following year based on consideration of factors including:

  • a spread of mixed ability students in every class (ie students working at the same level academically)
  • a range of learning styles
  • social and emotional needs
  • friendships
  • students with behavioural needs (ie. those who require extra support to access the curriculum)
  • a good mix of students from previous classes
  • gender balance
  • other relevant individual needs

As per our school approach parent requests based on Educational needs need to be directed to the principal in writing by Friday 7th October and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Parent requests regarding class placements with their child’s friends and requests for specific teachers will not be considered. Please email the school office on blackburn.ps@education.vic.gov.au to inform us of your request.

WELCOME FIONA BAIRD

Hello, I'm Fiona Baird. I have worked at BPS over many years as a casual relief teacher, and I am thrilled to be officially joining the staff team as 5M's class teacher for the rest of 2022. In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer and getting together with friends and family.
