PIXII PERIOD PRODUCTS AND DISPENSERS
St Joseph’s College Mildura is proud to offer students free Pixii period products. Pixii dispensers can be found in select toilet blocks around the Enright and Mercy College campuses, providing a selection of period products at no cost to those who may have been caught out or unprepared whilst at school.
This fantastic initiative makes our college a more inclusive place and comes as a result of a collaboration between a group of college students, Deputy Principal Students Heath McClaer, and me, the College Nurse.
Founded in 2019, Pixii is an amazing Australian family business that strives for ‘the way things should be’. They combat disadvantage and promote gender equality by improving access to period products in Australia’s schools and workplaces. Pixii also has a great ‘eco ethos’!
All Pixii period products are: | And they do NOT contain: |

Pixii gives back by donating 50% of their profits to empower women and young girls worldwide through a partnership with One Girl, a charity which harnesses the incredible power of education to drive change for girls and their communities.
In Sierra Leone and Uganda, One Girl overcomes the unique barriers that girls face with education and empowering girl-led programs. Eliminating barriers opens opportunities for compounding good throughout girls’ lives and the lives of everyone they interact with.

FRAYNE SPEECH FESTIVAL
Students from St Joseph’s College made a strong showing at the Ursula Frayne Speech Festival held at Emmanuel College in Warrnambool this year. Ms Helen Gowers, Mr Michael Carty and Ms Jackie Gorman accompanied students, acting as adjudicators, whilst supporting our debaters as they competed in the annual event against several other Catholic Mercy Colleges from all around the state.
Olivia Kambouris, Lara Hyland, Grace Albanese, and Maia Gowers in Year 10 and Abby Thompson in Year 11 made up the St Joseph’s College debating team. Students were covering diverse topics such as, 'true debate in our world around important issues is a dying art' and 'the biggest disease spreading within our society is the disease of apathy'.
Facing stiff competition from Sacred Heart College and Academy of Mary Immaculate, our team only missed out progressing through their rounds by a few points and demonstrated their knowledge with well-structured, planned, and well-presented arguments.
All students are very keen to expand on their experience and participate again next year. The long drive was well worthwhile with seaside walks, teamwork, spirited debating, and lots of fun had by all. New experiences broadened students’ horizons and many new friends were made.

TAC NIGHT TIME DRIVING UPDATE
TAC have re-launched their night-time driving campaign. They are urging parents, guardians, and supervisors to educate learner drivers about the hazards that come with night-time driving and help them to get at least 20 hours of supervised driving experience after dark.
Research shows that in their first year on the roads, P-plate drivers are around seven times more likely to be killed or injured while driving at night than fully licensed drivers.
On average, around 31 first-year P-platers are killed or seriously injured while driving at night in Victoria each year, with approximately 50,000 new drivers hitting the road annually.
Find out more in the video below as Learner Supervisor Carolyn and learner driver Siena talk through the importance of nighttime driving practice.
