Acting Principal's Report

I acknowledge the First Peoples of our nation and the traditional custodians of the land on which our beautiful school stands, The Wathaurong people. I pay my respects to the Wathaurong people and acknowledge their contribution and care of the land and waters on which our school community works and lives. I pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge and thank all First Nations people within the Miners Rest School Community.

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Just a reminder that we are conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be accessible online until Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

Families have been emailed the link and login details.

Please contact the Administration Office if you would like more information.

We thank all of our families for their support and participation in this important survey.

MacqLit

We are delighted to be able to support our Year 3/4 children with the literacy support program, MacqLit. Two of our Education Support Staff have recently completed training to become accredited to deliver the explicit literacy teaching to identified students. The program will commence in the final week of this term and continue next term and beyond. To ensure the success of the program, and to maximise the impact on student learning outcomes, we require the support of adults to engage in regular daily reading with the students involved in the program.

So, if you have a Working with Children Check, and you have some time to read with children one-to-one...WE NEED YOU! Your support would be most greatly appreciated. Please contact the Administration Office for further details.

School Hats

As our SunSmart Policy states...

From September 1 to April 30, all students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities. Hats may also be worn for all outdoor activities outside of the September to April time period, by parent or student choice.

Staff and students are expected to wear hat styles that protect the face, neck and ears when outdoors, for example broad-brimmed, legionnaire or bucket.

Students are required to wear a school hat or another hat style that protects the face, neck and ears when outdoors, for example broad-brimmed, legionnaire or bucket. Students who are not wearing appropriate protective clothing or a hat may be asked to play in the shade or in a suitable area protected from the sun.

We seek parent support and organisation to ensure that all students are compliant with the above requirements. We will have a transition/reminder period for this week. However, as of next Monday, a school hat will be a required part of our uniform for outdoor activities and play. Thank you.

Student-led Conferences

Student-led Conferences are scheduled for next Tuesday, September 5. Bookings can be made via schoolinterviews.com.au and entering the code 7mzzd. Bookings for conferences will close this Friday. Families are strongly encouraged to book a time to hear your child's learning reflections, goals and strengths and an opportunity to speak with classroom teachers.

As we move into spring, we wish you a sunny end to the week (fingers crossed).
