Student Led Conferences – October 6 2022

Thank you to the parents and carers that attended the Year 12 Student Led Conferences that were held on August 30 to ensure that we are working in partnership to support our young people to have a successful end to their schooling with us.

Our Student Led Conferences for students in Years 7 to 11 will be held on Thursday October 6th in the first week of Term 4. Information about booking has been sent by Assistant Principal, Andrew Brown. Please contact him if you are having any issues with bookings.

We look forward to welcoming you into the College to discuss the great things that our students are doing.

GAT Test and Supporting our Senior Students as Exams Approach

As our students prepare for their end of year exams, this can be a stressful time for not just our young people but also their parents and carers.

The next few weeks are going to be crucial for all of you. Whilst results do matter and can impact on your future opportunities, just trying your best and showing up for yourself is what matters the most. All your hard work is about to pay off.

  • Stay focused and do your best.
  • Believe in yourself.
  • No need to be nervous, no need to be scared.
  • Keep a positive attitude.
  • Just stay confident and concentrate.
  • Give it your best and success shall be yours. An exam is not only a test of your academic knowledge, it is a test of your calmness, stability and positive attitude.

The exam process commenced on Thursday September 7th with the General Achievement Test. Students completing a Unit 3 and 4 VCE sequence as well as VCAL students completing a Senior Certificate were involved. All students approached this well and I thank the staff for their support of the students.

A few reminders of things that are important for students as they approach end of year exams that parents can help assist with:

  • Water bottles must be clear/see-through
  • If a dictionary is allowed in an exam, it must not also have a thesaurus component
  • Students completing a Maths end of year exam, please bring your own calculator and check that this is working and give it some new batteries if needed prior to the exam
  • Make sure you have more than one pen/pencil

Changes to the length of isolation when COVID -19 positive

Please continue to report any instances where your child/ren test positive to COIVD-19 to the covidresponse@scsc.vic.edu.au so that we can advise your child’s teachers about their absence and provide work where possible.

Please note that as of September 9th, the isolation period of asymptomatic persons who are COVID-19 positive is 5 days. Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) kits are still available at the College and students are eligible for 3 boxes per term. Please collect yours at the Administration Office.

Staff Professional Practice Day and Transition Visits

Friday September 9th current SCSC students were not required at school so that teaching staff could engage in their common professional practice day. Staff are eligible for one professional practice day per term where they engage in moderating work in teams, co-planning and assessment.

On this day we also welcomed Grade 5 students from Torquay Coast PS and Bellbrae PS to participate in a Science Day, facilitated by SCSC staff.

We love hosting students and staff from our local feeder primary schools here. They were so excited to see Science in action and to learn from the wonderful, expert teachers that we have at the school. Thank you to the staff that volunteered their time on this day to work with the Grade 5 students and made sure that they had a wonderful day. A special mention to Mr. Brad Foss who put on what will be his final ‘Science Magic Show’ which is always a hit. Brad will be relocating to Queensland in 2023 and we will dearly miss him.  A proper farewell for Brad will be had later in the year.
