IMPORTANT COSTUME INFORMATION

· Students are required to bring all costume items from home on MONDAY OCTOBER 3RD (the first day of Term 4) and will need to remain at school (& subsequently the theatre) until the final performance

· Please send appropriate items on a coat hanger (e.g. shirts, dresses), together with a small bag containing any extra required items such as shoes, leggings, hat etc.

· Each student will be provided (by the school) with a name label in their house colour to attach to the coat hanger

We would prefer not to use plastic bags (not only from an environmental perspective) but also

1. They tend to break easily

2. They are more likely to be left behind at the theatre &

3. It is far easier to identify a distinguishable bag (also named)

PLEASE ENSURE EVERYTHING IS NAMED CLEARLY

· Items being provided by the school will be issued during that 1st week of the term

· There will be a dress (costume) rehearsal during the first week of school

· Students will arrive at and leave the theatre for the evening performances in school uniform (ALSO CLEARLY NAMED).

DRESS REHEARSAL AT LATROBE UNIVERSITY - MONDAY, OCTOBER 10TH

Students will come to school as usual and travel on buses to Union Hall for the day, returning to school for normal pick-up time.

A PERMISSION NOTICE AND COSTING INFORMATION WERE ISSUED ON SENTRAL EARLIER THIS WEEK.

ARRIVAL AT UNION HALL FOR PERFORMANCES

· Students’ arrival at the theatre will be staggered, commencing at 6.15.

· The week before the production, specific times for house cohorts will be published next term.

· We will also provide you with a map of Union Hall showing the students’ entrance and the main entrance for audience members.

Parents will be asked to sign their children in with teachers in attendance at the students’ entrance.

· After each performance, parents will be able to collect students from allocated waiting areas and again sign them out with their supervising teacher.

DO YOU HAVE A HOBBY HORSE HIDING IN A CORNER SOMEWHERE?

We are still in need of several to complete a specific item. If you can lend us 1 for a couple of weeks, please bring it to the music room after the holidays and ensure you have your name on it for easy return.

THANKS

Carol & Laura

A little more about the Production

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

Is it the same show on both nights?

Yes - this is so we can celebrate all the work that has gone into preparing the play, and it also gives two groups a chance to perform as the main five characters.

Do children have to perform both nights?

It is the expectation that all students perform on both nights.

What if I can't get my child there?

Some parents are carpooling to share the trips.

Please let your child's class teacher know if you have any difficulties with this.

Do parents have to attend both nights?

Parents do not have to attend both nights but are welcome!

If students are being dropped off, they will be signed in on arrival and signed out when picked up.

What time does it start and finish?

It begins at 7 pm and should conclude around 9 pm.

Will it be filmed?

YES! Both nights will be filmed professionally and available for purchase at a later date.

We understand there are some concerns regarding the finishing time (approx. 9pm).

We fully appreciate this is past some students regular bedtime, and as such will be understanding if students require a sleep in on the Wednesday and Friday following the performances.

All students are expected to perform in the finale as a whole school item. This is often a highlight as it brings all students together at the end.

Also, as teachers will be in the hall supervising students prior to the finale, it is logistically difficult to sign students out early without disrupting the performance.

There is always some anxiety around performing for a few students, but in my 33 productions, I have only ever had 1 student choose not to go on stage.

Teachers are encouraging students who may feel a little apprehensive and you, as parents can continue the positive talk at home.

Phrases such as the following, all help to build a strong resilience and increase the excitement:

"I can't wait to see you up on stage"

"You are so brave"

"I'm so excited to see the Production"

"You are so lucky. I never did anything like this when I was as school"

CAN YOU HELP?

  • Are you able to assist with any sewing? We have some small and some larger costume jobs. Please send me (Carol) a message if you are able to help out in any capacity.

Thanks to those who have already offered to help with costumes. 😊🙏

STILL NEEDED..................

Do you have?

  • a hobby horse lying around your house that we could borrow? If so, make sure it is named and you can leave it with your child's classroom teacher or bring it to the Music or Performing Arts room.
  • a portable clothes rack we could borrow from the end of Term 3 through til after the Production in Week 2 of Term 4?

THANKS 😁
