Term 3 Wrap Up!
Wow, what a busy term in the Foundation/Year 1 area! The last ten weeks have flown by as we learnt, celebrated and shared our learning in different ways. This week's newsletter will wrap up some fantastic learning experiences in Term 3.
Starting the morning with a lovely creek walk, we explored our local community and completed a scavenger hunt to search for different cultural items. We spot plants, street signs, shops, flags and many other conversation-sparking things along the way. At the athletics carnival, we had the best time playing different games and running in the race!
A personal favourite of ours must be the 100 days of school. Not only did everyone look amazing, but we all had such a positive experience celebrating school. In 100 days, your child has already achieved so much: meeting new friends, learning so many new things, visiting new places and achieving some awe-inspiring goals. Oh, and the sausage sizzle lunch was pretty good too!
Our Inquiry topic about culture got us to share and connect this term. We learnt about traditions and cultures worldwide and shared our unique family culture. A big thank you to the families who volunteered their time to come into the classrooms and share with our students. They loved having special guests and experiencing new cultures.
A lovely way to celebrate new books in our school library and Australian children's authors and illustrators! Students and Teachers had a fantastic time getting creative with their costumes and sharing their favourite books. We spent the week reading a range of old favourites and CBCA shortlisted books. Also, a shout out to our read-a-thon readers!
This term, our focus for Cultural Week was Spain! We decorated an abanico (fan) with the Spanish flag, map, animals, food and famous landmarks. The following day, we learnt about favourite Spanish artists, including Picasso and Gaudi. Students created their masterpieces to show off their style of art. Throughout the day, classes visited our very own gallery of famous artwork and ended the day with a mosiac craft. On Thursday, our classrooms had a makeover! We entered our rooms to find tables in rows and an irregular schedule for the day. We compared our lives in Australia to kids in Spain. We tried a yummy breakfast - pan con tomate y jugo de naranja (bread topped with tomato and orange juice) and compared our food, games and classrooms in our mini booklets.
Production is ramping up! Students have been practising each week during Specialist days. We have had a whole school rehearsal on Monday, and there will be a few more in the first week of school in preparation for the big day. A reminder to bring your child's costume as soon as you can, starting Monday, Term 4 - Teachers will store them in classrooms ready for rehearsals and final production (October 11th and 13th)
Parent Helpers Term 4: Please select your child's class to see the appropriate timetable. Timetables have also been sent out via Sentral. Thank you to all families who have filled out the online forms and shown interest in our reading program. Please be mindful that Term 4 will have some interruptions to our program due to production rehearsals and swimming. If you need to reschedule or contact your classroom teacher regarding our parent helper program, please message via Sentral.
A reminder that Term 4 is a hat term! Please ensure that you wash, label, and pack your child's hat over the school holidays.
To our families, thank you for your support and involvement in our learning. We hope you have a restful break.
To our fantastic students, you are all superstars! We can't believe there is only one term left until you move into year 1 and year 2! We look forward to seeing you all next time for a jam-packed Term 4.
