SPECTACULAR 

After three years of waiting, NPS made us proud with a SPECTACULAR SHOW!

Newlands signed up to be part of the Mass dance from 2020. Unfortunately, covid hit and the Spectacular 2020 show became a first time ever, virtual show! 16 of our 4/5/6 students participated in that, at least!

 

Victorian State School Spectacular 2021

Last year, 2021, we had the hopes we would finally make it to the arena, but shortly after the first hub rehearsals, covid landed again, with a  few lockdowns which impacted the Spectacular show from going ahead at the John Cain Arena, once again sadly!

 

3rd time lucky - Victorian State School Spectacular 2022

This year, 2022, we finally made it all the way to the actual SPECTACULAR SHOW at the JOHN CAIN ARENA! I call it, third time lucky!! What an amazing experience it has been for the 17 dancers that participated and for me as the main teacher running the rehearsals and collaborating behind the scenes with the Performing Arts Unit for Spectacular!

 

We were apart of 4 hub rehearsals at Ivanhoe East PS and Maroondah Nets.

We collaborated we at least 7+ schools each time and the main choreographer, Hara along with her assistant dancers.

 

Last week we attended major Dress rehearsals and the Spectacular show at the John Cain Arena as follows:

  • Thursday: At school from 8:45am- 7pm back at school
  • Friday: At school from 7:45am - 6pm back at school
  • Saturday - SPECTACULAR SHOW DAY! From 10am - 10pm

They were very long days, full of energy, excitement, sweat, with minimal breaks!

All dancers did a brilliant job in keeping up with the dancing rehearsals and following instructions in how to change for costumes and go on and off stage! It was very hectic and I am amazed and proud at how they not only behaved to represent our school values of Care and Responsibility, specifically, but also how they showed care and support for each other when someone was overwhelmed, needed a break and showed incredible encouragement as a SPECTACULAR TEAM! Go Spectacular Newlands Team!

 

Let's not forget JAIMIE and the Principal singers, for making a huge impact on our 4/5/6 dancers! Bella, Isabella. F and Maya were fortunate enough to run into Jaimie and thought he was so amazing, they took a photo, see above. They literally screamed and treated him like Justin Bieber, it was both hilarious and really sweet! Bless you girls for being fans already to our future STARS! :)

I would like to especially give a MASSIVE THANKS TO LIZZIE for supporting us in all the three days of rehearsals and show day! If it wasn't for Lizzie, it would've been much harder to manage costumes, general organisation and care for all 15 dancers that made it to the grand show at the John Cain Arena!

 

Thanks to Carol for offering to attend the Saturday Spectacular show as support. It really helped to have three staff onsite to help with the transitions and ensure costume changes ran smoothly.

 

Thanks to the community and parents for their commitment and engagement tot he Spectacular show this year! It made a huge difference to students knowing their families were there to support them through this incredible life changing experience!

 

Thanks to staff for showing their supports through messages of praise and encouragement via our group chats; this really made a difference to me which helped me to keep going on with the rehearsals and show, despite how exhausted I was! I appreciate all your ongoing support and energy Newlands staff! :)

 

It's not over yet, Production is next in Term 4! Stay tuned for the amazing dance items, songs and script in our Production after four years! Exciting times! :)

They unfortunately couldn't make it to the big show but attended all hub rehearsals and will be participating in the Spectacular Production item.

Certificates will be given to each and one of the dancers who participated in any of the hub, dress rehearsals and the show.

 

Thanks again to leadership and Principal Ross Dudgeon for approving and supporting the Spectacular show. It has made an incredible difference to our students lives! I already have Grade 3s wanting to audition to be a part of Spectacular next year!
