New York Dance workshop

On Friday 9th August, the VMG Dance students were able to participate in a Hip Hop workshop with visitors all the way from New York. This is what some of the students had to say about the day…

The NY dance workshop was very inspirational. It was incredible seeing school students our age travelling all the way from New York and being able to dance so well in Hip Hop. They showed us other backgrounds and genres of dance (popping, locking & NY step) and the day had such an amazing feel.  The New York dancers were so caring and they could definitely get down and boogie! We learnt a dance hip hop piece from Jahzeel in an hour and performed with him and a few of their crew in the Visy stadium during a lunch time performance. This was all such a great experience and I would love to do it again!

It was an amazing opportunity and something that built confidence in us all. There was a great vibe and the NY team was very inclusive. This is an experience that I’ll always remember. I loved their enthusiasm, energy and they made it easy for us to learn the dance moves.

Everyone really enjoyed the challenge of learning new movements and we all loved it because it was unique and different to what we normally do. We loved performing with the New York team and it’s an experience we’ll never forget. We hope they come back in the future! The vibe was so amazing on the day and their message on resilience and hope which they conveyed through the performance was so good.  It taught us that even when things go wrong we can just bounce back.
