SUCCESS STORIES

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ron Burshtein (7G) represented Victoria in the 2013 Australian National Judo Championships in Wollongong over the long weekend. He competed in the Senior Boys under 36kg weight division. Ron won four fights and lost one to win a bronze medal.
Congratulations! What a fantastic effort!
CAITLIN TO REPRESENT VICTORIA!
Caitlin Arneil (Year 9) has been named in the Under 16 School Sport Victoria State Hockey team to play in the National Championships in Tasmania in August. This achievement is made greater by the fact she is much younger than the age limit and can still trial next year for the team. Congratulations Caitlin and we hope you have success in the tournament.
MONASH SCHOLARS' PROGRAM
Three Year 10 students have been selected for the inaugural Monash Scholars' Program. Greta Skahill, Doo Young Yun and Matthew Mahoney will attend the official launch at the Caulfield Campus of Monash University this month. All scholarship programs aim to provide talented students with positive educational experiences. We hope they will be rewarded by this experience.
MEN’S GYMNASTICS
Congratulations to Skyler Kah (8C) for placing 3rd in the Victorian Men’s State Gymnastics Championships (vault) and 11th overall in Level 7. The Championships were held at the State Netball & Hockey Centre over the Queen’s Birthday weekend.
Skyler was selected after 2 trial competitions to participate in the Victorian Championships against Victoria’s and New Zealand’s best gymnasts and was one of the younger competitors. Skyler trains four hours a night, 4 times a week at the Cheltenham Youth Club.
Men’s Gymnastics is one of the only sports to have appeared at every modern Olympic Games since the first competition in 1896. Men must compete in all 6 apparatus; rings, vault, floor, high bar, pommel and parallel bars. The routines require immense strength and precision to complete.
Today the core strength and coordination developed by gymnasts is considered an advantage for athletes wishing to compete in many sports at an international level.
2013 STATE SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR
David Yarrow (10G) will be performing in the 2013 Victorian State Schools Spectacular at the Hisense Area on Saturday 27th July. He will be doing a feature of beatboxing and also beatboxing on several other performances, as well as participating in some singing. We wish him the very best in this production.
