Beauty and the Beast
Don’t miss this year’s spellbinding family musical Beauty and the Beast. Dreaming of a happier life, the beautiful Belle finds herself transported to a spell-bound castle held captive by a hideous beast. Can she see beyond the monster and fall in love with her captor before the last petal falls from the enchanted rose? Or will the Beast’s selfishness cost him the world he once knew and the hand of the girl that has melted his heart? This unmissable show will be packed with all of the ingredients our audiences have come to expect from Patterson River Secondary College musical productions; lots of laughter, full of drama, stunning costumes, outstanding music and plenty of magic.
Rehearsals are officially underway and we have been astonished with the amount of talent at the College this year, which obviously made the audition process a difficult one. After four days of auditions, the production team finalised the cast list and are excited to have over 150 cast and crew members.
Between now and the show, the cast will spend approximately 150 hours in rehearsals, perform on stage for 10 hours to audiences and over 400 costumes will be created for the show. Putting on a production is a mammoth task and we would like to thank all the staff and wider school community members who have already began helping out. A special mention to the production team and staff members, who are giving up their time for rehearsals, playing in the band, sewing costumes, fundraising and other bits and pieces. We can’t wait to perform this musical extravaganza.

Music Update
The Music Department is off and running for 2018. We have been delighted with the amount of new Year 7 students who have signed up for instrumental music. Students have already attended meetings to meet their instrumental teachers and will commence their first lessons next week – don’t forget to return your instrument hire forms at your first lesson. The future looks promising! And it is not too late to sign up! Please come to see the friendly music staff if you are interested in learning an instrument – we still have spots available in trumpet and trombone.
All ongoing instrumental students have all commenced their lessons for 2018 and are attending band rehearsals. If you are unsure of your lesson time, remember you can look on Compass or there is a hard copy on the windows of M1.
The Music Department works hard to ensure that students are able to showcase their talents. In the coming weeks, we will see the Senior Band performing at Open Night (Thursday 15th March) while the Road Band will perform at the Chelsea Heights Primary School Market (Saturday 17th March). We look forward to many more performances in 2018.
