Year 7 Surf Life-Saving

We have certainly hit the ground running this year with many sport events already being completed this early in the year.

As part of Year 7 sport this Term, students were able to choose Surf Lifesaving as an option.

We have been going to Bonbeach Lifesaving Club for the past 2 weeks where students have been learning skills relating to surf lifesaving and surf awareness.  The students have been getting a lot of practice on the boards and learning how to negotiate windy conditions and getting back on the boards when unable to reach the bottom.

We have been learning about sand bars, ocean life, hand signals and wind direction.  The students have really been enjoying the opportunity to get out in the water and we have had such wonderful weather so far, it not hard to see why they are loving it.  We will continue our program with Bonbeach Life Saving Club until the end of Term 1.  All the students have been representing our College perfectly and it’s a pleasure to take them each week.

Carrum Cost Guard 'Around the River Fun Run'

Patterson River Secondary College was strongly represented by 47 staff and students donning the ‘Eel’ at the Patterson River Coast Guard Fun Run held on February 25th. Competitors could choose to compete in either the 6km run or walk, or the 12km run. We had 6, 12km runners and 35, 6km runners including 11 staff.

We were blessed with perfect conditions for runners and walkers alike and our results didn’t disappoint.

For some, this was a first time event and for others, an opportunity to better their times from last year.

We really appreciate the parents/guardians, students and staff willingness to give up their time on the weekend to partake in an event that supports our local community and highlights what amazing athletes we have within our College.

We are thrilled to be able to announce that we came 3rd overall in the 6km team event and we WON the 12km team event.

Our individual results were also incredible.

U17 Males 6km run – 3rd place: NICK BROWN; 00:25:39

U17 Females 12km run – 1st place:  SHKYIAH UPSON; 01:03:10

U17 Males 12km run – 3rd place: SHANNON DELANEY; 00:58:53

In the 6km event, we had 5 runners finish in the top 10 for the Under 17 Female age group and again in the 6km event, we had 4 runners finish in the top 10 for the Under 17 Male age group.
