Teaching and Learning

 Term 2

Teaching and Learning Week 6

At Concord School, we have extensive Specialist and Elective Programs.

These provide students with a wide range of experiences that develop specific skills and knowledge while nurturing student interests and passions through active learning.

In the early years of their schooling, students participate in many different specialist programs to provide students the opportunity to experience and explore many different areas within the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Science and Technologies.

As students move through to their senior years of schooling, they are able to select electives targeted to their interests.

Our Year 9 - 12 students are currently in the process of selecting their electives for Semester 2. The electives that students are able to select from are:

Physical Education

Students will work on developing their own skills and fitness and then participate in games where they will put these skills into practical play and real life game situations. They will also learn and be encouraged to work in a team, cooperate and show good sportsmanship.

Outdoor Education

In Outdoor Education, there are a range of fun and exciting activities to participate in including  kayaking, bike riding, and rock climbing.

Visual Art

In Visual Art, students will look at the world that surrounds them by creating images with that as the  inspiration. They will look at two styles of sculpture in this unit and will investigate found objects to repurpose into sculptures and also use clay to create ceramic sculptures.

Drivers Education (Year 11/12 Only)

In Drivers Education students will develop confidence and feel empowered to work towards attaining your L plates. They will investigate road safety issues about Laws & Restrictions, BAC, driver distraction, road rules, road user perspectives, risky behaviours and choice and consequence.

Creative Media (Year 9/10 Only)

In Creative Media students will build practical skills around capturing audio and visual content. They will gain skills using programs to plan, shoot and edit videos and images, add audio tracks and overlay text and effects.

Science

In the STEM Lab elective, students will work in small groups to explore and solve small group design challenges. Teams will work together to design, plan, create and test their own prototypes and group challenges.

Music

In Music students will have lessons on how to play different instruments. They will learn current songs and songs picked by the class. Students will also learn how to be a beatmaker and DJ.

Digital Technologies

In Digital Technology students will be using special software called TinkerCad to design simple objects. They will then print them on the school’s 3D printers. Students will make objects like dice, magnets, keyrings and bookmarks. They will also get the chance to design their own unique object and to use the 3D printer pens.

Food Technology

In Food Technology students will experience a variety of cooking styles and techniques with an emphasis on healthy eating. Each week they will cook a delicious meal or appetiser from start to finish and continue to develop their skills and independence in the kitchen. Eating the food they cook is the best part of Food Tech!

Our skilled and passionate specialist teachers provide engaging and meaningful learning programs for our students to find and develop their passions.
