Yr 8 & 9 SEAL excursion

On Wednesday, May 17th, the year 8 and 9 SEAL classes went on an excursion to Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) located in Melbourne university. It was a day full of science for us. It was also a hands-on learning environment which was lively and just an extraordinary experience.

Upon entering, we were informed about what we were doing that day: Investigating and trying to solve an environmental crime based on a true event about birds mysteriously dying multiple ways. So, it was up to us to discover who would commit such an awful crime.

The overall day was incredible and such a wonderful experience in general. It was a fun yet informative day, unlocking more and more clues the more we investigated the crime. We used different types of microscopes, worked with GTAC scientists and constructed DNA profiles using forensic techniques. If we were to go back to GTAC in the future, I would look forward to it.
