Book of the Week

This week is Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The library has a number of titles, both by indigenous authors and based on indigenous history. We have non-fiction and fiction titles to share with our students and we are adding to this collection with seven new titles ordered this week.

Feel free to explore our collection or ask one of us to find a title.

Sister Heart by Sally Morgan

This week’s Book of the Week, Sister Heart is the story of a young Aboriginal girl who is taken from the north of Australia and sent to an institution in the distant south. There, she slowly makes a new life for herself and, in the face of tragedy, finds strength in new friendships.Poignantly told from the child's perspective, Sister Heart affirms the power of family and kinship.

This beautiful verse novel from Sally Morgan can be used as a personal and approachable conversation-starter about the Stolen Generations for mature young readers … its message is powerful.
