Principal's Message

26th of May 2023

Dear TCPS Families,

All the very best to our Grade 4s who head off to camp next week. They will be attending and staying on site at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. Camps are very dependant on the contribution and organisation of a large number of staff. I know that your children will not only be in the best of care, but also have a very busy and engaging list of activities to experience. Thank you to the Grade 4 team and to all other staff members who will or have been involved in the organisation.

Student bringing items of value to school

Due to the obvious 'dangers' we are discouraging students in bringing items of precious value to school. Often these items can 'challenge' the natural temptations of children and these items can very easily either end up missing or damaged. This regularly can occur in particularly in the case of trading cards. Can you please discuss the obvious risks with your child and together come up with the best conclusion.

School Crossing

The School Crossing ladies have reported a number of students not using the crossing to cross Horseshoe Bend Rd in particular. Clearly this has been seen as a 'short cut' to access the South Boundary Bike Shed. First and foremost student safety is our main focus. We want our students to use the crossings for safety reasons. The school has also had to canvass and work with the Surf Coast Shire in the identification and provision of school crossings, and also the workers required to manage them. We would not like to lose any of these resources through under usage.

I have also reinforced this at our school assembly. If parents could help by also reminding your children to use the School Crossing where available, that would be greatly appreciated.

Student Constructed Bike Jumps

The shire has returned the area on our South boundary to its original state after the area  was fast becoming a central location for before and after school 'gatherings.' The area was slowly being transformed into a bike jump construction site.

As a school we were receiving a number of complaints about incurred injuries and unsupervised behaviour not consistent with our school's normal expectations. Clearly the area was appealing to some of our students who were arriving very early, and lingering a long time after school. Hopefully as parents, you too will also notice the natural benefits of the removal of this construction site also.

General Information for Reference

Please note that there are 2 pupil free days this term

Monday of week 8 (June 12th) is the Monarch's birthday and is a Public Holiday

Tuesday of week 9 (20th June) is also a designated pupil free day for Child Led Interviews.

More warnings will be provided closer to these dates, but parents may want to start adding these dates to their calendars in preparation.

Please also note the meeting dates for the TCPS CCG (Community Connections Group) on the 'Dates to Remember' newsletter tab.

School Parent Community Event - CCG

Our proactive, hard working and highly motivated CCG (Community Connections Group) have worked tirelessly to put together a detailed and costed proposal to hold a parent and friends Trivia Night Event.

Student Disco

It has been a number of years since we have been able to hold this event - but we are happy to announce that our student TCPS disco will return this year - 3rd August.

Details will be released closer to the event but this will be event hosted and run by the school staff. We are working closely also with the CCG to coordinate a possible 'car park/central plaza' event for parents that will run in conjunction with the disco.

The disco will be held on a Thursday from 6pm - 7pm to minimise the impact on student sporting and activity commitments held predominantly on a Friday afternoon/evening.

TCPS ASSEMBLY

We love that our families are once again able to return to our school assembly. Our assembly is a very important part of our week. It is an opportunity to proactively reinforce our school culture and expectations through the acknowledgement and celebration of our students and school. Love of Learning is a key Character Strength of focus.

The inclusion of photos and emails celebration our school and students in and around our community is a key part of our assembly. Due to the substantial amount of time required to process all inclusions, internal and external, and then to build into our assembly visual format, can I please request that all items are sent to me by Thursday prior to assembly. If these emails/photos are sent to the school office or your child's teacher - they will be forwarded to me to 'process'.

Ideally, they can be sent directly to me via email darren.roskosch@education.vic.gov.au

Elements that TCPS families can contribute to our TCPS Assembly

TCPS Goes Global: Take a school flag (we have 5) or a TCPS polo on your journey's around the globe and send us a photo (3 max). I will then feature this at our assembly and have a photo added to our display wall at the front office.

TCPS Super Stars: If you know a TCPS child/teacher/family member who has achieved something amazing in any field (not just sporting) please send me the details and a possible photo so that we can all celebrate and acknowledge the achievement.

TCPS: Shout Outs: If you have a special family member visiting for the first time who are in an audience - please let me know and I will give them a special TCPS 'Shout Out.'

Early Pick up of Children from School

Can I please request that parents contact individual staff members as early as possible if you are collecting your child/ren prior to the end of the school day. This will help in organising for children to be sent to the office ready for collection. Based on the increasing frequency of these occurrences we are unable to use the PA system due to the distraction and disruption it causes to teaching and learning across the school.

PA announcements occur in recess and lunch breaks.

As teachers do not have constant access to emails during the day, I encourage as much advanced notice as possible so we can do our best to have your child/ren ready and waiting for collection. Office staff will do their best to support you where possible, however with our increasing size there may be unfortunate delays especially if no advanced notice is provided.

Education is free at TCPS - No Student Payments or School Fees in 2023

I am pleased to inform our families that once again in 2023, and for the foreseeable future, there will be NO requested payment towards Curriculum Contributions from families (previously known as student charges). This means education at TCPS is free for our TCPS families.

TCPS will provide ALL curriculum materials for our students without any requested financial contribution in the form of student charges, from our families.

This includes ALL books/pens/pencils/paper etc, art supplies, online programs, classroom materials, sporting programs incl buses. Parents will not be requested to make any financial contribution to cover these items.

There are a number of complex contributing factors that has enabled us to once again achieve and provide this for our families.

The ongoing support of our families has ensured that our school has been able to offer the best possible education and support for our students.  We want to thank all those over our school’s history for their support. This has made a huge difference to our school and the programs we have been able to, and will continue to offer.
