Students are commended on their efforts in gaining SWL arrangements in Term 1 & 2 of 2023. We have had an outstanding response from our school community to SWL this year and are thrilled to see so many students take on this valuable learning experience.
Many students current SWL arrangements will be complete by the end of Term 2. These students can seek to extend their current SWL arrangements by negotiating with their employers, or alternatively seek to establish new arrangements for the remaining part of the year. Students looking for new opportunities can approach local organisations or view SWL positions advertised on the state wide SWL portal.
All students seeking to extend their SWL arrangements should check in with the Careers & Pathways Team at PLSC to ensure these are locked in before the start of Term 3. All new arrangements require new SWL forms, these can be found on the Careers & Pathways Google Classroom and printed versions are available in the Careers & Pathways office.
Students may have noticed Careers & Pathways Google Classrooms have been set up for each year level. These are to promote and support Careers & Pathways initiatives and opportunities within the college to all students.
Students have been added to their year level classrooms and are welcome to access the pathway planning content, upload Safe@Work certificates, use the job search tools and resume and cover letter templates. If you have not got access to your year level’s classroom, please advise the Careers & Pathways Team so they can add you.
Students can also make a referral for careers and pathways support via Compass using the favourites (star) tab.
Year 12 students have started planning their next steps for life beyond PLSC in 2024. Students have begun documenting their Career Action Plans and most have met with the Careers & Pathways Team to discuss their next steps towards life after secondary school. Many students have identified they will be seeking to gain apprenticeships or undertake training at TAFE once they have completed. Students are now reviewing courses and identifying potential employers to prepare applications for.
Year 12’s are encouraged to keep an eye on the Careers & Pathways Google Classroom for information about job opportunities, open days/ information sessions and other careers support available to school leavers. The Careers & Pathways Team will continue to meet with students to support them throughout the remainder of the year and assist in locking in their final plans.
