Wow! I can’t believe that it is the end of term 2 already. The term has certainly flown by, however there has been plenty of highlights for our school. None more exciting than the move into the new Robert Street buildings. The modern and open spaces have been a nice change for both staff and students. It has been extremely pleasing to see the respect that the students have shown for the new facilities.

Student Leadership Camp

Early this term, our student leaders attended camp at the Victorian Sailing School in Geelong. The aim of the camp was to build social connections with each other and expand their teamwork skills. Students focused on their communication and interpersonal skills, whilst focusing on self-management and working in a team in real life scenarios, including learning to sail a boat and the multiple roles this involves. It was great to see the positive group dynamics that were displayed by the students which contributed to an extremely successful camp for all involved. The connections built have continued throughout the term as the students worked together to implement school celebrations such as IDAHOBIT Day, Sorry Day and the end of term assembly.

 Whittlesea Youth Summit

Monday 5th June was World Environment Day. Our student leadership group attended the Whittlesea Youth Summit at the Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre. This event was attended by 18 schools from the city of Whittlesea and this year’s topic was Environment and Climate Change. We heard about strategies other schools have implemented to help the environment, heard from experts in sustainability practices and spend time planning initiatives we could implement.

We also made the following pledge:

PLSC will look to implement the ‘5Rs- Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle’ into the school environment starting with looking at the way we recycle and working with the Lalor Community Garden to compost food scraps

I am excited to work with the students next term to implement some of these sustainable practices into the school environment.

Classroom Learning

The term has been an extremely busy one in the classrooms as teachers have strived to support students to complete semester 1 work for their respective subjects. There has also been plenty of incursions and excursion for the different year levels to attend which has really created an engaging learning environment for our students.

Year 12 PDS students have also implemented lunch time activities for students to participate in as part of their coursework. The table tennis tournament, treasure hunt, Jeans for Genes and dodgeball activities have provided the students with activities to join in at lunch and has contributed to positive vibes around the school. The Year 11s will be facilitating more activities for students to participate in. during term 3.

I hope that everyone enjoys a well-deserved break, and they take the time to recharge their batteries and make time to spend time doing things they enjoy.

See everyone in Term 3.
