Curriculum Day

On Wednesday 24th May, staff at the college were involved in a series of workshops to continue their valuable work auditing each subject’s curriculum in terms of both content and skills progression according to the new VCE Vocational Major. This is indeed a huge task, and this day specifically provided time to meet in teaching teams to look at our scope & sequence and designing our units of work according to current best practice. Next term, with all the work completed thus far, we will be able to further develop the content and skills delivered to our students. We will provide staff a day to do this during our VET session to avoid disruption to learning for our students. This is important work for us here, as it will form the guiding directions of our curriculum for the next four years.

GAT

The date for this year's GAT has been announced by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and it falls on the 15th of June. The General Achievement Test (GAT) has over recent years undergone some changes which means that all VCAL students will need to sit this test.  These have occurred as part of the reform of the VCE and VCAL system, Victorian senior secondary students will this year have their literacy and numeracy skills measured against new standards in a reformed General Achievement test.

The new standards will indicate whether students have demonstrated the literacy and numeracy skills typically expected of someone completing their secondary schooling – giving another indication of their readiness to move onto further education, training or employment.

The GAT will be split into two sections:

Section A will assess literacy and numeracy skills.

Section B will assess skills in mathematics, science, technology, the arts and humanities, with an increased focus on critical and creative thinking skills.

Our Year 12 students have had a dedicated assembly to support their planning and preparation for the GAT. Our students will travel across to Lalor North Secondary College where they will be supervised by external supervisors. A PLSC staff member will assist them in this process. A special thanks to Tim Cottrell (Principal) and his team at LNSC.

We wish them well.
