ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS' REPORT
JUNIOR ART SHOW AT THE EAST CAMPUS
The Junior Art Show was held at our new East Campus on Monday 5 December. The ground floor foyer was transformed into a polished, professional gallery space displaying a cross-section of lino prints, paintings, drawings, ceramics, digital art, 3D printed and laser-cut sculptures. This also provided a wonderful opportunity for Year 7 Art students and parents to explore their ‘new home’ for 2023.
Local Illustrator, Designer and Printmaker, Matthew Broughton formally opened the show, remarking upon the incredible standard of student achievement in 2023.
We have a tradition of outstanding student work in the Visual Arts at McKinnon, which is made possible by the creativity, professionalism and resourcefulness of our teachers. We would like to extend a very sincere congratulations to Miss Emma Butler, Ms Tracy Griffith, Mr Lynton Perry and Miss Angie Pai and our Art Leaders, Mrs Rogosic and Mr Eglezos.
JUNIOR SCHOOL BOOKLISTS
Booklists for 2023 can now be completed online through Campion Education. The link is on the College website or can be accessed here. Families will need to create an account (if they don't already have one) and if prompted, the 4 digit code is 4WMD. If families would like their orders home delivered during the summer holidays, the online process needs to be completed by Friday 16 December. Campion has included a set charge to cover the packing and home delivery costs.
For families interested in buying/selling secondhand books, information about the Sustainable School Shop is available here (the link is also on the College website). Please ensure you check the edition of the book on the booklist before purchasing any second-hand texts.
Please note that information about Senior School booklists can be found in previous issues of the newsletter, as well as the Compass newsfeed.
STUDENT CHROMEBOOK PROGRAM
A reminder that all students from Years 7-12 require a Chromebook purchased through our supplier. As with other parent-purchased resources (such as textbooks), these devices have been selected specifically to enhance our curriculum. The success of our Chromebook program relies on all students working on the same platform; therefore, bringing a device not purchased through the school's supplier is problematic. Students may experience network accessibility issues, while non-school approved devices cannot be serviced and maintained by our technicians. In addition, we are continuously rolling out new Google apps and features through our school domain and these are only compatible with Chromebooks purchased through our supplier. For these reasons, students bringing a different device to school (e.g. MacBook, Windows laptop) may be at a disadvantage in the classroom.
If you need to organise a new Chromebook for your child for the 2022 school year, here are the instructions for ordering online:
- Click on this portal link: https://mckinnonsc.technologyportal.com.au/
- The Access Code is MSC2023 (for the ‘Purchase’ section)
- When entering your child’s details, the 'Student Username' is their McKinnon student code
McKinnon’s Chromebook program plays an incredibly important role in delivering an effective and engaging curriculum to our students. Its success relies on all students using a standard platform and we thank all families for their ongoing support.
END OF YEAR ARRANGEMENTS
Families have been contacted about end-of-year arrangements for students in the Junior School. More details can be found on the Compass newsfeed.
The College will be conducting Presentation Night rehearsals on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 December. Students involved in these events have been notified. The last three days of the year (Friday 16, Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 December) are Curriculum Days and no normal classes will run.
We would like to thank all families for their efforts and support in 2022 and hope everyone has a restful summer break.
