Year 3 & 4 Maths

Incursion

By Amy Cahart

Last Wednesday the year 3 and 4 students were lucky enough to have a maths incursion come and visit us in the Hall of Champions. Students were put into small groups and given the opportunity to solve many real life related maths problems. They had to use many of the skills that we have been practising during our open ended and problem solving sessions in the classroom. Students were required to think critically about how to solve the tasks, show exemplary teamwork and persevere to find the most effective and efficient solutions. The teachers were extremely proud of how all students represented CPS and loved watching them discover and explore in Numeracy! Here are some photos and comments form some of our students from the day.

Drop In

I enjoyed racing the blocks and we had to concentrate on the flashes to see how many each of them got. I liked the blue one because it went down quicker and had a big drop at the end.-Isaac

I liked how the blocks moved down the ladder. We competed against one another and my one finished in 4th place! It was fun to work with other people.-William

See-Saw

I enjoyed exploring measuring by seeing how many blocks made the see saw level and then when Mr Blue went up we counted the blocks – Ava

I enjoyed using the blocks to measure how heavy and how light the ‘Mr People’ were! It was pretty fun working with my friends to solve maths! – Kaylen

I really liked the see saw because i liked measuring the people and comparing them using the blocks. Mr Blue was the heaviest! – Tiana

Look In

You had to use the shape to make a half of the shape and use the mirror to see its reflection. It was tricky as we had to choose the right shapes and the right vertical or horizontal lines to make it match. – Satty

We had to make half of the shape in the mirror so it reflected to make the full shape. I enjoyed this activity although it was a bit tricky at first but then got easier – Jobe

I liked how we had to join the pieces together and copy the picture. We had to work together as a team and it was fun! – Abhi

We were building a model from a picture and we had to make it the same. We had to put a lot of pieces together to make the whole thing. We worked together and it was a bit challenging at first because I thought the upper one was the bottom at first! - Chris

Make Your Bunk

We were building a model from a picture and we had to make it the same. We had to put a lot of pieces together to make the whole thing. We worked together and it was a bit challenging at first because I thought the upper one was the bottom one at first.-Chris

I liked that we worked together on making the bunk and when we got it wrong we corrected ourselves.-Vivaan

I liked how we had to join the pieces together and copy the picture. We had to work together as a team and it was fun!- Abhi

Escape

The escape was good because I had to work together and show good teamwork in my group. We were giving each other tips of what to do, so we got out of this one easily!-Chloe

I enjoyed escape because you had to work as a team and to start we had to have one 1 chain and tangle it up, then you had to get untangled!-Hayley

We had to use teamwork which I enjoyed and it was trickier when we did it together rather than in partners then it was easier!-Zoe
