Year 3/4–Celebrating Learning

3/4 Mainstream

At the end of last term, 3/4A and 3/4B students wrapped up their Integrated unit with an excursion to ‘Tyama: a deeper sense of knowing’ at the Melbourne Museum. Tyama (CHAH-MUH) is the Keerray Woorroong language verb ‘to know’. It was about knowing, not just with our minds, but with our whole body. Students had the opportunity to connect with First Nations stories through digital interactive displays. Students were able to use sound to see like bats, chase pheromones with moths and learn from fish to sense without touch.

The exhibition finished with a beautiful story where students were able to swim with whales to discover songlines that connect us all.  Students were reminded that we are all storytellers and that every storyteller is a guardian of Country. 3/4 students learnt that by listening closely with all our senses, we can embody these learnings and understand our place in the world.

3S has been having a wonderful time in WAYAPA and gardening. We’ve been outdoors and connecting to land and getting our hands dirty. We’re moving a lot outside with Aunty Lee in WAYAPA. Our hands have been getting dirty planting sunflower seeds with Emily in gardening.

During the term we grew mushrooms in the cupboard. They looked so magical and tasted delicious.
