A Message from David

Congratulations to everyone on the outstanding success of the Arts Festival on Saturday, October 22nd. Despite the early rain there was a great turn out of people to watch a variety of musical performances and dances, view the rich display of student art, and eat the delicious food on offer. The funds raised for the school on the day were just over $19,500 which is a great effort, however the true value of the day was in bringing the community together and celebrating the creativity and artistic achievement of our students.

The confidence of students and quality of performances and art and craft pieces is indicative of the wonderful learning programs at TPS.  A big thank you to the Arts Festival committee (Kester, Erica, Yaz, Yvette, Di, Laura, Sylvie, Emma, Antoinette and Fin) for their organisation and coordination of the event and to everyone who volunteered support on the day.

Term 4 is usually when we start transition activities with Year 6 students preparing for graduation and transition to secondary school and where we welcome our 2022 Foundation students and their parents into the Thornbury Primary School community. This week we commenced our transition program for students who will be joining us at TPS in Foundation next year.

World Teachers’ Day – Hats off to teachers

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) established World Teachers’ Day in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society. World Teachers’ Day is held internationally on Tuesday 5 October. As it fell during the school holidays, we celebrated it, 28th October.

This day is an opportunity for staff, students and the wider school community to recognise and acknowledge the work that teachers do. Teachers have shown great resilience in the challenging times of the past few years. In the short time I have been here I have been incredibly impressed with the commitment, dedication and care of the teachers at TPS in catering to the academic and wellbeing needs of students across the school. Thank you to all who reached out to their child’s teacher to acknowledge them on this day.

Please don’t hesitate to get in contact if you have anything you would like to discuss.
