Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the last weeks of our school year, the staff and the children are enjoying a range of activities in their classes, as well as rounding off their learning programs. Children have been involved in transition activities as well which is helping in the preparation of classes for 2023.
Next Tuesday, our Year 6 students going to Victorian government secondary schools have their orientation day at the school they will be attending in 2023. Also on Tuesday, we will welcome the students who will be commencing in Years 1 to 6 next year to our school for their orientation to EHPS.
Prep 2023
The Orientation Day for next year’s Prep cohort was held last week. This was a very positive session and a great opportunity for the teachers who are starting to get to know the children and vice versa. The feedback from the staff and families was very positive and it was a great way for the children to get to know their teachers. A huge thank you to Carolyn W and the whole Prep team, led by Kirsten, who have prepared an extremely engaging program for the children.
Thank you to the PFC for conducting a secondhand uniform sale and also to our new uniform supplier, Spartan School World, for providing a very useful opportunity for families to purchase school uniform items.
Graduation 2022
The Year 6 team and the Graduation Committee are finalising all the planning for the graduation celebration for the Year 6 cohort of 2022. This year we can return to the more traditional organisation of this special day. The children will have their luncheon, and then return to school for the Graduation Ceremony beginning at 7pm sharp, which will be followed by the disco.
I would like to acknowledge the excellent work of the Graduation Committee and the tireless contribution of the Year 6 staff. We look forward to a memorable event for our Year 6 Class of 2022.
Final Assembly
Our final assembly will be held on Tuesday 20 December in the Stadium. This will be an opportunity to formally farewell our Graduating Class of 2022, staff and students that are leaving EHPS as well as announcing the new School Captains.
Road Safety & Courtesy
Last week I messaged all parents to express my disappointment with the poor compliance to road laws in the streets around the school and in the council carpark. It has been reported that there has been some improvement and I thank you all for your cooperation.
This morning though whilst on yard duty at the front of the school, I still witnessed some inappropriate and discourteous behaviour.
I would like to again remind all families of ways to ensure that we respect our neighbours and ensure that children and families are safe on the roads around our school.
- All road rules should be followed meticulously – speed limits apply in Essex Road as do parking restrictions. Please:
- Do not park across our neighbours’ driveways.
- Do not park / leave your vehicle in the Kiss and Drop zone at the front of the school.
- Do not U turn in Essex Road in front of the school.
- Follow speed limits in the streets surrounding our school.
- Park safely and courteously in the City of Monash Essex Reserve carpark adjacent to the school while waiting for your child.
- Children’s safety is the highest importance so please ensure that:
- You use the supervised School Crossing to cross Essex Road.
- Children get out of cars on the footpath side.
- You do not walk through the Staff & Permit carpark as an entry or exit point. It is not a pedestrian area. It was only used for this purpose due to necessity in COVID times.
I urge everyone to take collective responsibility for this matter. We are responsible for the safety of the children as well as being role models for our children. Road safety is a responsibility we all share.
Let's work together to keep our children safe.
Cyber Safety
With recent cyber breaches, it has been suggested to me that it would be timely to highlight some resources that families might find useful to minimise these risks.
As a Victorian government school, we follow all the relevant policies and measures issued by the Department of Education & Training. We have been advised by the Department about appropriate practices to protect critical and sensitive information collected by the school in all aspects of its operation. In addition, we maintain a secure ICT network following the requirements and technical controls of the Department to protect the systems from cyber-attacks.
Our school has a Digital Learning policy on our website: Digital Learning Policy. This policy contains links to useful Department of Education & Training policies including: Cybersafety. The policy also outlines safe and appropriate use of digital technology, including the use of social media.
A useful resource is the eSafety Commissioner website and in particular the parent section. Please take the time to visit the links below:
https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents
https://www.esafety.gov.au/about-us/counselling-support-services
Please take the time to discuss these issues with your family.
End of Term
Families are reminded that Tuesday 20 December is the last day of school this year. Students will be dismissed at 1.30pm.
See you around the school.
Kindest regards,
George Perini
