Numeracy Week

Numeracy Week

The teachers and students of Greenvale Primary School were abuzz with excitement two weeks ago and it wasn’t because we all had the extra day off for the running of the Melbourne Cup. Everywhere you looked all you could see was rather strange and peculiar fashion choices, with maths being front of mind. Students for as far as the eye could see were wearing creative maths themed outfits such as coming dressed as Albert Einstein, a dice or a calculator.

A huge, huge thank you goes out to all of the parents that supported their children over the long weekend while creating the absolutely amazing outfits that the students wore on the day. See below for just a small sample of the outstanding outfits worn on the day.

Congratulations to each of the students below for being judged best dressed in each cohort by the members of the Junior School Council.

A big thank you to the members of the Junior School Council for their assistance in judging best dressed and also for the promotion of the event in the lead up to the big day.

On top of the maths themed dress up day there were numerous activities that the students were involved in.  These included a horse themed maths team quiz, maths games at lunch-time and comparing their height to a variety of different horse breeds.

We gave students the opportunity to guess the height and weight of the world's largest and smallest horse. Let’s just say that our student’s estimating skills really came to the fore when participating in this activity.

All classes participated in extra maths lessons during the week that were based on a horse theme and having fun with maths.

A big congratulations to all of the students and staff for boosting the profile of mathematics at Greenvale Primary School.
