Teaching and Learning in 5H

What a busy start to Term 4 5H has had! This was truly a term of hands on fun, learning and of course camp! The students we able to explore their strengths and face their fears on our Year 5 camp this term. Many faced their fears climbing to great heights on the Crate Climb, some climbing over 12 crates high, or flew to success on the Giant Flying Fox which was over 300m long.

Students braved the hills of Forest Edge Camp gliding down on their all-too-cool Mountain Boards, making it look easy! Finally, the students got to experience how to bush cook for survival out in the woods, with the challenge of starting a fire with only 2 matches left… with the help of their camp leader and the students crafty creation of a stick and wood tepee, we were able to create the perfect fire starter and hot coals for our damper.

5H truly showed teamwork and support while on the camp. Students celebrated their team’s successes and helped those who needed support or a pep talk. 5H demonstrated the true meaning of our 5 values on this camp and even ate their vegetables at dinner time.

If camp wasn’t enough, 5H has also been learning and exploring governments from around the world. This has sparked in-depth conversations about democracy and how we here in Australia are lucky not to live in a country where people have no say about their rights, or lifestyle. This has resulted in the students creating a digital presentation on a type of government from around the world. 5H are excited to present these projects this week, sharing their views, thoughts and findings of governments around the world!

Could we ask for a better start to Term 4? I don’t think so! We can’t wait for you to see where the school year takes us next!
