Principal's Report

Recruitment

We have been busy recruiting for the 2023 school year.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Mr Jellie for becoming substantive in his role as Numeracy Learning Specialist.  We all look forward to working with him to continue looking for ways to engage our students in numeracy and improve our results.

I would like to welcome Mrs Lisa Gadsden and Ms Paige Dwyer to our team for 2023.  I look forward to what they can bring to Langwarrin PS.

Oval

We have selected our preferred tender!  Now we need the VSBA to allow us to enter into a contract and then we can start discussing start times.  We will do our best to plan it so students have as little time possible off the oval, but we’ll be guided by CJP Landscaping as to the timeline.

Thank you

For the kind messages sent via email and on our Padlet last Friday.  It was a welcome boost and nice our teachers could be acknowledged for the hard work they do.  So on behalf of our teachers thank you!

Pupil Free Day

We still need to acquit a Professional Practice Day for all of our teaching staff.  This is part of their EBA.  In order to do this and because relief staff are hard to get, DET have allowed schools to have this as a pupil free day.  This saves us having to split grades and move staff around to cover grades.  The pupil free day will be the last day of school (20th December).  Team Kids will be available for care should you require it.

School Captain Interviews

I have begun interviewing our candidates for 2023 School Captain.  So far, the calibre of applicants is very high. We are lucky to have such great students to choose from.

I do not solely choose our captain.  Our leadership team, our specialist team, our students in Year 4-6 and the teachers who teach Year 5 (and those who taught Year 4 the year before) also vote.  We take all of that information in order to make a final decision.

Have a great fortnight,

Mark Moorhouse
