Library Lessons

This week we have listened to the book by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing, Somebody’s Land, for Reconciliation Week. The theme for Reconciliation Week in 2022 is Be Brave, Make Change. We are asking students to think about truth telling of our shared history. The discussion included examples of how traditional Aboriginal culture is still practised today, not something which only happened a long time ago.

Overdue Books

We currently have one quarter of our school students with an overdue book. Some of these have been missing for quite a while. We need these books to be used by the whole school community. Could you please ask your children about what they have borrowed and if they know where it is.

Lists will be going to class teachers and English teachers at the secondary level as reminders.

We are currently attempting to have our borrowing system send email or sms reminders home to families but this has been a very complicated process.

Book Club

Orders for our latest issue of Scholastic Book Club are due today. There are some great new books such as a new book in the popular series Ella and Olivia,  a new Hot Dog (12) and a retelling of the 101 Dalmatians story called Evil Thing. There are also discounted books like Pig the Winner and Alpacas with Maracas. If you do not have a catalogue for Issue 4 you can find it at:

You can do your orders online via their LOOP process. https://www.scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/

Reading and Why it Matters

Becoming fluent readers who can read without difficulty and with good comprehension is very important in our day to day lives. We need to understand what is going on in our world, fill in forms and communicate with people. Much of this is still presented in text rather than video or image. We are also learning that reading, like many mindfulness activities, can put us ‘in the zone’ where we can relax, renew and just be. What have you been reading lately?
