5-8 Community News

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

A very different week this week for our community. Our Year 8s have been living it up in Anglesea and our Year 7s in Kyneton, whilst our 5/6 students continue to be at school pursuing and achieving their educational goals.

The work in ‘the Resilience project’ this week was definitely applied but in a practical way. Each camp experience is an opportunity for students to overcome their fears and challenges, but most importantly, further develop positive and long lasting relationships with their peers and their teachers. Activities such as the climbing wall and high ropes are all activities that require students to not only develop trust, but to also find solutions to overcoming obstacles.

Throughout the Year 8 experience and in a collaborative setting each night, the students had opportunities to reflect on each lived experience throughout their day.

They were asked questions such as:

  • What worked well?
  • What did you overcome?
  • How did you work through the scenario?
  • What are the take aways?

To tie all this work together, on the final night, the Year 8 students battled in out on a Kahoot. Whilst we all braved the wettest and coldest week for the year, the students enjoyed spending this time with their friends.

Lastly, as we head into Week 7, some important reminders for our whole community:

Years 5/6 IPad information Sessions on Monday 6th June, which will take place in the auditorium at 8.15am and 3.30pm. We estimate that each session will go for 30 minutes along with questioning at the end of each session. If you are unable to make it due to work commitments, I ask that you sit with your child and run through the information. It’s not only a privilege and a luxury to be able to provide each child technology for their learning spaces, it is also very important that we educate our students collectively around the challenges that come with using technology.

What we are working towards as a 5-8 Community:

  • Continuing to be organised: books, learning equipment, device, school journal etc
  • Getting to each lesson on time, especially after each break
  • Utilising brain breaks for their purpose. So much research supports student breaks for self-regulation
  • Continuing to stay within the designated 5-8 play areas
  • Following teacher direction

6-8 Partnerhsips Excursion

The 6-8 Partnerships students were invited to the Afghanistan Mosque in Shepparton. The students met with members from the Afghan community where they were reintroduced to the six beliefs of Islam. A truly wonderful and touching experience.

Year 8 Camp

Despite some cold conditions, the students thoroughly enjoyed the activities at camp.
