9-10 State Tennis

The Year 9-10 boys ventured into unknown territory as they battled for the state title on Friday 20th May. After an early start, we headed for the Boroondara Tennis Centre. Our number 1 seed, Ayden Barrett was on a trip to Perth, but luckily Braith Northausen came back from a shoulder injury that stopped him competing in regionals.

That meant Ben Dickens, Bill Hipwell, Jim Hipwell, Braith Northausen and Gabriel Wilson were left to take on the big task of state finals. The first round matchup saw us against a sporting school, Rowville. After some great games, Rowville proved too strong for our boys in the singles. We fought hard in the doubles, but Rowville walked away with the chocolates.

With a big break and an inspiring speech from Zane, the boys walked into the next round with a positive attitude. Our next round matchup was against Notre Dame from Shepparton. The boys shook away their nerves and started playing their game. They hit some brilliant shots and began showing off their skill sets. Unfortunately the results didn’t fall their way but the boys still fought hard.

This left one more round to go. The boys took on the winners from the day, Maribyrnong. The boys showed great determination in this round but Maribyrnong proved why they were the State champions.

Well done to the boys for representing the school in a great manner and making us very proud of how much they were able to achieve!

A big thank you to Mrs Ryan who drove the bus on the day.

9-10 Regional Badminton

The intermediate boys Badminton team were in Bendigo on Monday 23rd May. After a couple of hiccups before the boys hit the road, Bill Hipwell, Ryan Pethybridge, Lachlan Carver and Jim Hipwell took to the courts. The first and only game was against Marist College. The boys all participated in a singles match and showed off their skills. There were some close matches however, Lachlan was the only player to come away with the win. The boys then teamed up to compete in a doubles match, but again, Marist proved to be a tough match up. At the completion of all the matches, it was a win for Marist 5-1. The boys showed plenty of fight and determination, however, the experience of some of the Marist players looked to be the difference. The boys represented the school in a fantastic manner and should be very proud of all their efforts! They were very happy to take home the runners-up flag.
