Year 2 Spotlight

Our First Excursion!

As you can imagine, the most exciting thing for Year 2 this term has been our excursion to Edendale Farm. One student even reported, “It was the best time I’ve ever had in my life.”

This term, for our Inquiry focus, we have been learning about the properties of materials and how they can be changed. So, the Year 2 students, teachers and parent volunteers excitedly made the journey out to Edendale Farm on Monday 6 June. The students (and adults) learnt about how different materials can change, be recycled and reused for different purposes.

The day was filled with fun activities including:

What a Load of Rubbish

We sorted out what goes in what bin and discussed why we separate rubbish, as well as ways to reduce sending waste to landfill.

Soil Matters

We learnt about recycling organic waste using worm farms to compost, planted a broad bean and were able to hold lots of worms!

Sculptural Junk

Instead of sending rubbish off to landfill, we turned it into art!

Farm Tour

We visited the different animals on the farm and were able to feed the chickens, goats, and sheep!
