Pastoral Program and Events

Angelique Phillip-Kemp - Pastoral and Events Coordinator

There are many exciting things happening around the College this Term, both in the Pastoral Program and with some of our major school events.

In the Pastoral program, students will continue to investigate their future Career options by unpacking their Semester 1 Reports and identifying their transferable skills, strengths, and weaknesses. Students will set goals based on their reports and what they are hoping to achieve in the future. They will also begin the subject selection process for next year, closely monitored and guided by their Learning Mentors. The Learning Mentors and VCE staff will help to ensure that students are selecting subjects best suited to them and their aspirations. Year 12 students will begin the daunting, yet exciting, process of applying for TAFE and University courses, utilising the valuable expertise and advice of Careers Coordinator, Leana Bailey.

Students will continue to work on The Resilience Project activities in their school planners, focusing on the three key principles of wellbeing: Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. R U Ok Day is coming up on 8th September. During R U Ok Day Week, there will be specific activities related to this day, both in Homeroom and lunchtime. Some of these activities will be run by our student leaders, drawing attention to the importance of mental health and looking after one another.

Book Week activities will occur in Homeroom and Pastoral later this Term. Stay tuned for more information about the exciting activities and events taking place during this week! Students will also participate in Respectful Relationships sessions during Pastoral this Term. They will focus on developing key interpersonal skills such emotional literacy, personal strengths, problem solving and safer socialising.

Year 9 and 10 students will have the opportunity to participate in a three day Outdoor Education Camp during Term 3. Year 9 students will be on camp from Monday 5th to Wednesday 7th September and Year 10 students from Wednesday 7th to Friday 9th September. Students will attend Camp Bindaree, located in the Lake Eildon National Park. This immersive experience focuses on an outdoor experience and learning new skills. There is a strong emphasis on working as a team and enhancing leadership skills through engagement in a variety of outdoor activities, such as Bike Touring, Bush Walking and Raft Building. An information session will be held at the College on 17th August for the students. They will be provided with a detailed handbook so that they are fully informed of all requirements prior to the Camp. Thank you in advance to all the staff who will make this camp possible.

Year 11 students will soon be attending the inaugural St John's Regional College Year 11 Formal. This exciting event will occur on Friday 5th August 2022 from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, at The Grand on Princes, 2251 Princes Highway, Mulgrave. We hope that all the students have a great time. Thank you to all involved in making this fantastic event happen.

A small group of dedicated Year 11 students are currently working hard to design the Year 12 Jacket for the 2023 Year 12 cohort. These students are showing great commitment to the project and it is exciting to see what they will come up with. Stay tuned to see the future design soon!
