Flora & Fauna

COOKING: The smells emanating from the Gallery every Tuesday have been wonderful! Our Foundation and Level 1 teachers working in the South Building get very hungry each Tuesday given the aromas that gently waft through the corridors. Our Level 3 students are thoroughly enjoying measuring, mixing, kneading, rolling and topping their pizzas! Devouring them at the end of the cooking lesson is by far their favourite part of the lesson! Thank you, Mrs O’Keefe, for another delicious recipe! The photos below highlight the fun our students have whilst learning in the Gallery!

GARDENING: The rain last week meant that some jobs will need to be carried over until next week. However, our grounds, plants, herbs and vegetables have been thriving as a result of recent rains. Please remember to send a raincoat and gumboots when your child is on the Gardening Rotation as generally we do proceed in light rain.

SUSTAINABILITY: Students have been investigating the idea of an ‘Ecological Footprint’ and what this means. In particular, students have been learning about the impact a person or community has on the environment. This is expressed as the amount of land required to sustain their use of natural resources. Students created their own Ecological Footprint and expressed their views on how they can reduce the impact at home and at school. Photos below show some of these results.

SCIENCE: Students have been learning about plants and how they adapt to different climates and environments. They have explored the parts of a plant and their functions and the things plants need to survive. Students chose a plant to research, focusing on its habitat, adaptations to its environment and interesting facts.

Thank you to all families who have volunteered their time to help our students in the Gallery with cooking or in the garden with Paddy.
