Level 1
Winter is here and don’t we know it! We’ve been dodging the rain and trying our best not to get too muddy at recess and lunch!
During our Reading Workshops we have been focusing on our reading comprehension strategies. We have discussed how we can use the pictures and our knowledge of a story, to make predictions. We can also draw on our prior knowledge and life experiences. During independent reading time, we are continuing to build our reading stamina by practising the behaviours that support reading such as staying in one place, choosing good fit books and getting started right away.
In Writing, we have continued to focus on talking marks and how we use these when adding dialogue to our stories. The children had fun making their own books titled ‘The Day the Animals Started to Talk’.
Last week, we engaged in fantastic brainstorming sessions about ways to make our writing more interesting through the use of adjectives and adverbs. The children did a fabulous job of ‘Dressing Up a Sentence’. They were very proud of their work and shared it with excited energy!
During our Mathematics rotations, we have focused on various addition strategies such as counting on and doubles. There was lots of fun with games and problem-solving activities to help consolidate these strategies.
Our Inquiry topic this term has centred around ‘Change Over Time’ and we have participated in activities about transport, education and communication. The children presented their Show and Tell on transport from the past or what they think it might be like in the future, in a variety of ways including drawings, Lego, Book Creator and Seesaw.
The children also designed and created robots for Inquiry that could help them do something. There was plenty of creativity, sharing, encouraging and glue (!) as their works of art came to life!
There were some beautiful mindful colouring shapes produced as part of The Resilience Project curriculum and it was lovely for the children to reflect on how they were feeling while participating in the activity.
Happy holidays and we look forward to bringing you more news from our classrooms in Term 3!
