Principal's Report

Michelle Mackenlay

Its been a busy couple of weeks at Clyde PS.  We've had a number of events happening check out some of the highlights below...

Father's Day

I wish everyone a happy Father's Day for this Sunday.  We were delighted to see so many special people attend our picnic event today.  We also thank the volunteers who helped run our Father's Day stall, the students always love the responsibility of buying their special person a gift.  Please see our Father's Day page for photos.

Phillip Island Adventure Camp

Last week our Year 3 & 4 students headed off to camp on the Monday.  For these students this was their first school camp and boy did they make the most of it!  Activities included a campfire, talent night, the infamous giant swing, a challenging ropes course and exploring the bug life in the pond.

On Wednesday it was the students of Year 5 & 6 who headed down to the Phillip Island Adventure Camp.  They too enjoyed a range of activities, which also included canoeing and raft building. Lots of fun and plenty of dirty clothes to be washed.

Our campers were extremely well behaved and showed respect and resilience, this was recognised by the camp staff who gave this feedback to our staff.

I thank all of the staff and parent volunteers who made these camps possible, and such a memorable experience for our students.

Book Week Celebrations

This week we celebrated Book Week, with our parade on Tuesday morning.  It was a real hoot to see the students all dressed up as their favourite book characters.  The Open Afternoon also occurred on Tuesday with many of our community members coming into classrooms to participate in reading activities with their children.  Thank you to all that attended these events.

District Athletics

On Tuesday 30th August, 50 students from Years 3-6 competed at District Athletics.  The weather wasn’t kind to us on the day, but it didn’t dampen our spirits!  Everyone had a great day and tried their best in tough conditions.  We were all very proud of them.  Special mention goes to Caleb  (1st in 200m),  Kayden (2nd in 100m), Jacob  (3rd in 200m), Kael  (1st in Shot Put), Oli  (3rd Shot Put), Oscar  (3rd in 100m), Aekam  (3rd in Discus) and 11 year Old boys relay team coming 2nd – Jacob, Kael, Cooper  and Kody .  Well done to all our competitors.

Kaleidoscope Program

Our school has been successful in it's application to participate in The Song Room's KALEIDOSCOPE Program, as part of the Department of Education's Positive Start in 2022 initiative.  This initiative aims to re - engage students and boost their physical and emotional health and wellbeing in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Kaleidoscope program will support our students to discover new ways to reconnect with their learning, peers and community through a sequential arts learning experience designed to explicitly build social and emotional skills.  The program will be delivered to students in Years 1-3 on Fridays for a 5 week block this term and Term 4, focusing on drama and performing arts.

CCTV

Clyde PS has recently installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) system at our school.

Our school has an obligation to ensure the school environment is safe and secure, and fulfil our duty of care to students, staff and visitors.  The CCTV system will assist our school to fulfil these obligations and to prevent and manage other inappropriate behaviour on school grounds. CCTV will also provide enhanced capability to protect our school’s assets against vandalism and theft.

We will follow Department of Education and Training policy requirements for the design, installation, management and use of the CCTV systems.  This policy is available at: CCTV in Schools – Installation and Management.

We will also place a CCTV Privacy Notice on our school website with more information about our school’s use of CCTV.

Bunnings Donation

We thank Clyde North Bunnings for donating a brand new 6 burner BBQ to our school. This will allow us to cook up some yummy sausages at events later on this year. Bunnings continually support our school, and we appreciate their support!

Footy Day

Our annual Footy Day Parade will be held on the last day of this term, Friday 16th September.  We ask students to come in their favourite team's colours, this may include a range of sporting teams including AFL, soccer, netball etc.  We will hold our parade at 9:15am in the new gym.

This year Mrs Steckyj has developed a colouring competition around our footy celebrations.  All students were given a footy themed picture to colour in and submit by Friday 9th September.  Mrs Steckyj and our Year 6 Arts Leader, Presley, will select the winners who will receive a prize at the final whole school assembly.

Foundation 2023 Transition

Our first transition session for our Foundation 2023 cohort is on Friday 9th September from 12.30-1.30pm.  Our staff are extremely excited to be welcoming this new cohort into our school and building relationships with these new students.  They have been busy preparing name badges and activities in preparation for this session.  Next Friday, students will be participating in a range of play-based activities so they can start to become comfortable in this new setting and begin forming new friendships and relationships with different students and staff.  All transition sessions over the next few months will have a different focus and the more sessions they participate in, the more comfortable they will feel when beginning Foundation next year.

If you haven’t already done so, please remember to bring in you enrolment form so your child can participate in this first session.

And lastly, I am taking some long service leave for the last 2 weeks of this term. Therefore, from Monday, Mrs Sue Lumley will be the Acting Principal during this time.
