NAIDOC WEEK

Due to NAIDOC week occurring during the school holidays, we came together as a school to celebrate our Indigenous heritage on Thursday in week 1.

The whole school joined in for a special acknowledgement which was led by our FIRE carrier students and Miss Tamara. We were then reminded of our commitment this year to 'Get Up, Stand Up and Show Up'. This means that we are responsible to care for our land, protect our heritage and cultural sites, being upstanders to racism and acknowledging and learning about our country's history.

As a school, we have made a pledge to be more mindful of the ways we dispose of our waste. During term 2, the year 5/6 students collected all of the soft plastic in our school. There was so much plastic that we were able to make a ball gown. This was displayed on a mannequin who was aptly named 'Trashiana Grande'! Check out her photo below. The students could not believe how much plastic we go through and that this is turned into landfill which will never break down. We have decided to send all our soft plastics to Red Cycle so that it can be re-used and turned into plastic furniture.

For term 3, we have decided to take part in the pledge 'Take 3 for the Sea'. You can read more about it here https://www.take3.org/

If every person collects at least 3 pieces of rubbish every time we are at the beach or park, we can contribute to the 10 million pieces of rubbish which is removed annually from beaches around the world.

Next time you are at the beach or your local park, see how many pieces of rubbish you can pick up and dispose of in a bin. Take a photo and send it to your teacher on SeeSaw or email.

PLAYTIME CLUBS

We have had an overwhelming response to our playtime clubs so far this term. It has been a wonderful time for students to connect with different peers and with teachers, in a relaxed and fun environment, whilst staying cosy and warm inside.

GARDENING GROUP

Each week, Ms Sue is very lucky to take students for a Gardening Club! So far this year, the students have researched what plants will grow best in different seasons, prepared the vegetable patch, grown and eaten their produce, made bird feeders to attract local wildlife and bees and are now busy making some beautiful mobiles to hang from the trees. Below are some photos of the kids with the bird feeders they made last term.

We have also been very fortunate to gain a $1500 Woolworths grant to support our gardening project. We will use this money to expand our garden, make a scarecrow and build a worm farm so that we can compost our scraps and feed our garden with worm fertiliser! Thanks Ms Sue for being such a fabulous help!
