1/2 T

Welcome back!

There's been lots of exciting learning going on in 12T to kick off term 3.

We also welcome Domenic to the 12T team!

MATHS

During Maths we have been finding out about fractions.

We can make fractions in all sorts of ways.

We started off making halves - of shapes, objects, collections and even jugs of water!

We discovered that we needed to make sure the parts are equal and

that we use it all up (no left overs).

We then imagined going on a picnic, where the food had not been cut up.

Through lots of discussion and trial & error, we split all sorts of picnic foods up into fair pieces - with different numbers of people sharing them to make halves (2 people), thirds (3 people), quarters (4 people) and some of us even tried sixths, eighths and tenths!

Counting practise has also been continuing - by ones as well as lots of skip counting.

It has been great to see so many students improving their accuracy and fluency when counting - the practise at school and at home is definitely paying off.

LITERACY

During literacy we have had groups of students working on specific skills including;

  •  consolidating letter sound knowledge
  •  finding the main idea in a range of different texts
  • learning about compound words - words made up of two separate, smaller words - ie. foot/ball = football
  • recognising digraphs that make the same vowel sound - ie. 'ay' (as in day) and 'ai' (as in rain) both say /A/

We have also read and listened to a whole range of different versions of the story Little Red Riding Hood. We planned our own story maps, changing some of the characters, setting, problems or solutions, and have begun to write our very own version.

We will use this writing to set personal writing goals to work on.

KABOOM SPORTS

On Wednesday we all participated in the Kaboom Sports morning. Everyone was placed in a team representing different countries around the world. We worked our way through 10 amazing activities and had loads of fun!!
