INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

It is pleasing to note that NGSC will have International Students joining us next term. These students are from Vietnam and China. It is exciting to note the growth in our program and we hope that these numbers continue as the borders open up. International students make a tremendous contribution to the school’s academic and social culture. I would like to thank Tonia Tigani for all of her proactive diligence in working with the overseas agents of these students.

EXAMS

All students in Years 7-11 sat exams. The Year 10 and 11 cohort sat exams for all of their subjects, Year 9 sat the core subjects of Maths, English, Science and Humanities. The Year 7, 8 and 9 SEAL students sat exams for Maths, Science, English and Humanities.

All exams were conducted in the Gym to cater for the increase in the number of students who were undertaking exams. All reports indicate student behaviour and discipline were excellent thus helping to ensure that the students are better prepared for exams in the future. The practice GAT was also held on the 18 May, and it was pleasing to see that attendance was at nearly 100% with the majority taking the session very seriously. Students have received individual and cohort feedback on their GAT performance and will be more informed as they sit the actual GAT on Wednesday 7 September.

Congratulations to all students who tried their best on the recent exams and upheld our school value of ‘achievement’.

REPORTS

The Semester reports will be provided to parents via Compass on Tuesday 12 July. This will provide information on the performance of your child for the semester. These are different to the Progress Reports as they also identify the level of understanding compared with the expected standard.

Parents/carers are advised to spend some time discussing the reports with their child. It should be a time of celebration for the diligent work for the semester. It is also an opportunity to implement strategies to improve areas that need development.

SEAL TESTING FOR INCOMING GRADE 6 STUDENTS

S.E.A.L. testing will be conducted on Saturday 23 July. It is later this year due to a departmental directive that all S.E.A.L. testing at Government schools cannot occur before this date. The students will participate in an online comprehension, numeracy and general ability test, along with a written creative thinking and extending writing task. If you have a child or know of a family who may be considering the S.E.A.L. Program, please do not hesitate to submit an application form. Forms are available online or from the school office.

We are looking forward to a refreshing break so that we can return on Monday 11 July for Term Three with renewed enthusiasm.

We wish you a safe and restful break.
