Holiday Reading
It is time for students to come in and get their holiday reading today! Our library is freshly stocked with requests, new titles, classics and old favourites. It is great to see students choosing their books. They are becoming increasingly successful with our subject or genre specific strategy to select a book by type or reading ability. It is also encouraging when students try something new, as they may discover book types they had not yet considered.
Reading Room
Our AV room has become a dedicated reading room during break time. All students are welcome to enter this space where they can take time out during their breaks and simply read a book without distractions. It has proved relaxing and enjoyable for those who have taken the opportunity.
McCarthy Library Book Club Start Up
McCarthy Library will be starting a Book Club for Years 7-12 in term three. All students are welcome. Book club will be every Week B Day 9 at Lunch in the Library. You may bring lunch and a book to talk about. What do we do? At Book Club, we love reading and discussing books together and sharing book recommendations over hot chocolate.
What are our students reading now?
Our students are choosing a huge variety of book types and topics. Some favourite authors at the moment include Dav Pilkey, David Walliams, Raina Tegemeier, Jeff Kinney, Stephanie Meyer, Lemony Snicket, John Flanagan, Aaron Blabey, Hiro Mashima, Shivan Plozza and Otomo Katsuhiro. This is just a small sample of what our students are reading. We look forward to next term and students continuing to find and read books that are perfect for them.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge
We recently ran a very successful book borrowing promotion for students who are undertaking the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC). The Challenge closes on 19 August 2022. To use our library books and ebooks to complete the PRC, students will click on “Reading Lists” from the top bar on the McCarthy Library homepage as shown below and scroll down to the Premier’s Reading Challenge 2022 List. We are always here to help. We welcome students enquiries in using this List or any part of the library.
