Secondary School News

Mrs. Lakshmi Mohan - Director of Teaching and Learning

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

I hope you have had an enjoyable break and feel rejuvenated to embrace the opportunities and experiences that Term 3 will bring.

We are delighted that we have a number of new students starting this term in the Secondary School in Years 8, 9 and 10. We welcome these students and their families to the Clayfield College Community and wish them the very best for the journey ahead.

We also have new staff members joining us this term. Ms. Cerene Hughes will join us as the Head of Sport and Activities. Ms. Hughes is a highly trained educator, lead administrator and coach. Ms. Hughes has a Bachelor of Education from Griffith University, a Masters of Sports Coaching from the University of Queensland and is also an Athletics Australia Coach. As part of her career journey, Cerene has worked across several schools in Brisbane, including Moreton Bay Boys’ College, St Joseph’s College, Padua College and Anglican Church Grammar School. Ms. Hughes is also a former parent of Clayfield College.

We are delighted to welcome back Mr. Christopher Humphreys to the Clayfield College community as senior Mathematics and Physics teacher. A past Clayfield College parent and staff member, Mr. Humphreys is an experienced educator with over 30 years of teaching experience working across a number of schools in Brisbane, including Hillbrook Anglican College, Mt. St. Michaels College and Brisbane Boys' College. He is also an author for Cambridge Science textbooks.

Joining us in the HPE Department is Ms. Stefanie Palmer. Ms. Palmer has a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts majoring in Health and Physical Education from Flinders University and is currently completing her Master of Education Leadership at QUT. She has experience working in diverse environments both in rural Queensland, Brisbane and in the United Kingdom, most recently teaching secondary HPE and Humanities at Mt St Michaels College, Ashgrove. Ms. Palmer is passionate about the role physical activity and sport play in young people’s lives and strongly believes that the skills promoted in HPE are valuable outside the school environment. Ms. Palmer is excited to embark on her new journey at Clayfield College.

Term 3 begins on Monday 11 July. In preparation for the term, I would like to highlight some key expectations, procedures, events and dates.

Uniform Requirements

The College has the following uniform requirements which all students need to adhere to:

  • One silver/gold stud or sleeper in each ear lobe if students have pierced ears
  • If hair length exceeds the collar, it should be tied up with a green ribbon or  scrunchie only
  • PE uniform is not to be worn to and from the College
  • Hats must be worn during break times and whilst travelling to and from the College

Infringements and detentions will be applied if consideration is not given to appropriate uniform requirements.

Mobile Phone Policy

As a reminder, students in Years 7 to 12 who bring their mobile phone to school are to store their phone in their locker for the day. The exception to this are students in Years 10 to 12 who require their phone for HPE lessons. It is then their responsibility to collect their phone from the locker before the lesson and return it back to the locker after the HPE lesson. Mobile Phones will be confiscated, and infringements applied if students contravene the above.

Parent Lounge Details

It is a school’s legal requirement that all family details are up to date on Parent Lounge. If any parent/caregiver details have changed pertaining to email, address, phone numbers or medical details, could you please make the appropriate changes on Parent Lounge.

Academic Queries

For any academic queries or concerns in Years 7 to 12 you are encouraged to contact your daughter’s classroom teacher in the first instance. Following this, if you require further assistance, please contact the relevant Head of Department. Our teaching staff and Heads of Department are committed to working with you and your daughters to provide the best academic support and outcomes for every student.

Years 7 to 12 Academic Procedures and Policies Document

The Years 7 to 12 Academic Procedures and Policies Document gives an overview of all procedures and protocols that need to be adhered to by staff, students and parents with regards to:

  1. Academic integrity
