Primary School News

Mrs. Audrey Fellowes - Deputy Principal / Head of Primary

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

The Primary staff and I are looking forward to welcoming you back to Term 3, which resumes on Monday 11 July. I hope you have had time to rest after an industrious Semester 1, where students put in a tremendous amount of effort in all facets of their school life. This was evidenced in their end of semester reports, which were emailed at the beginning of the holidays. If you haven't had a chance to do so, I encourage you to read through the report with your child and congratulate them on those areas in which they performed well and discuss any goals set by their teacher. The upcoming Pre-Prep parent-teacher meetings and Prep to Year 6 Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences in Week 1 (Week 5 for Year 2) will give you the opportunity to discuss the report in further detail and continue the shared partnership of your child's education.

In Term 3, students will continue to wear the Winter Uniform, and they will return to wearing the Summer Uniform on Monday 5 September:

Pre-Prep:

  • The College tracksuit or navy fleecy jumper may be worn

Prep to Year 6:

  • May wear knee-high socks with their formal uniform or continue with ankle socks
  • The College jumper or vest may be worn with the formal uniform
  • The College tracksuit or navy fleecy jumper may be worn on HPE days

We kindly ask that you please label all items.

We are delighted to welcome many new families and students to the College in Prep, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 6 this term. We wish them a wonderful beginning in their new school.

Staffing

In correspondence sent to families last term, you would be aware of the appointment of Assistant Head of Primary; Mrs. Miriam Bryan. Mrs. Bryan will begin with the College on Monday 11 July and has already had the opportunity to meet with some students who have been in Vacation Care over the holidays. There will be opportunities throughout the term for you to meet with Mrs. Bryan and she can be contacted on email at mbryan@clayfield.qld.edu.au. The first point of call for any questions or concerns is the classroom teacher; however, both Mrs. Bryan and I can be contacted at any time.

Please find a short introduction from Mrs. Bryan:

I am delighted to have joined the team at Clayfield and am excited to get to know the community better over the coming weeks. With over twenty years experience in the education sector, I am well versed in the pedagogies and wellbeing practices that will enable your children to thrive through their primary years of schooling. I have a particular interest in children's literature and drama and am looking forward to working with the students in their classrooms and in a lunchtime 'theatre games' club.

I am looking forward to upcoming conversations about a Primary musical in the coming year. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you feel there is anything I can do for you.

We would also like to welcome Mrs. Marie-Clare Borrman, who will be working with Mrs. Hodgson in Year 6 as a Teacher Aide. With years of experience as a clinical psychologist, we are delighted to have her skills and expertise alongside our Primary staff.

Mrs. Christine Robertson will be taking Personal Leave for the first few weeks of Term 3 and Mrs. Sally Wake will be taking Year 2 in the interim. Mrs. Wake has had a thorough handover with Mrs. Robertson during the holidays and had the opportunity to meet the class last term. She is an Old Collegian and tells me she is so thrilled to be working at her old school! Mrs. Wake has taught at Somerville House and other independent schools in NSW and Queensland.

Technology and Mobile Phones

This is a timely reminder for students and parents in Years 3 to 6 to read through the Technology Agreement, which can be located in the College Diary. If your child brings his/her mobile phone into school, they must hand it in to Student Services before school starts at 8:30 am. Smartwatches are to be turned off whilst on Campus.
