Social Justice has been alive and well at St Pius X College. The week before last I accompanied the four members of the St Pius X Sydney Alliance Group to the Catholic Schools Office of Broken Bay Social Justice Day where they presented the Environmental project they have been working on. Staff and students were impressed with the efforts of the group and their work so far in making the St Pius X College site more sustainable.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending my first St Pius X College Year 12 Retreat at Mulgoa. Alternative Beach Retreats were also held at Tallow Beach on the Central Coast. All experience as well as reports from Tallow indicated that the students were fully engaged and enjoyed the opportunity to spend some reflective and spiritual time after the challenging time of the Trial Exams. My thanks in particular to Bernard Batchelor, Paul De Silva and Tony Cuneen for their leadership and coordination of the Retreats and the many staff who attended, ensuring the Year 12 students had such quality experiences.
Year 10 will have their final Reflection Day this Friday and I thanks Mr Pawlak and Mr Adrian Brannan for their organisation and facilitation of the day.

SPX2016 40 Hour Famine team finished strongly this year with 26 members raising almost $2000 to assist in abolishing world hunger. The 26 students and staff gave up either food, technology or sitting down for their challenge on the weekend. A big thank you and well done to all involved.
Last Friday at lunchtime the Edmund Rice Society ran their Fair Trade Stall selling 55g blocks of Cadbury Fair trade chocolate. Throughout lunchtime they raised just over $100 Callan Services in Papua New Guinea. The Edmund Rice Society members from years 5 to 10 run the stall each Friday of Week 1.
The Color Run was run in Centennial Park last Sunday morning with over 100 SPX2016 team volunteers including students, staff and families of St Pius X College. A huge thank you to James Spencer for thinking up this social justice initiative that will raise in excess of $3000 for the White Knight Foundation. The day started at 6am setting up before the runners and ended with the clean-up at 12pm. Our volunteers had a huge amount of fun throughout the run throwing blue, pink, green and yellow dye powder and giving high 5’s to 20,000 runners.
The Edmund Rice Society met on Tuesday this week and had the opportunity of listening about the life of Edmund Rice through a PowerPoint and timeline display by two of the leaders Jacob Crisafulli and Matthew Hall, even Br Sherrin came to watch their presentation and was suitably impressed.
