Secondary Campus Report

From the Secondary Campus Principal

Welcome to Jacob Y who joins our Science/PE Department.  Jacob has hit the ground running and already begun to familiarise himself with the school and operations. We are looking forward to some great learning and outcomes in classes.

Teachers and support staff are working tirelessly to engage individual students and cohorts. Considerable time is spent interpreting student data and developing strategies for learning styles and programs. The shared information at Meet & Greet Day was so important with this direct approach to differentiating tasks.

We are excited with the roll out of continuous assessment in Year 10. Families will be provided with details pertaining to the process and procedures over the next few weeks as CATS, or Common Assessment Tasks, begin in earnest. Continuous Assessment, or real time assessment, is based on the premise that for students to make progress, and for teachers to monitor then own effectiveness, feedback to students needs to be immediate. All subjects have a minimum of two CATS per semester. Once students have completed a CAT and it has been assessed you will receive a notification to access your Sentral Portal in order to view the student's results. This is currently being trialled across ALL Year 10 subjects and English from Years 7 to 9. If you have changes your personal details including mobile numbers, email, residential address and emergency contacts can you update as soon as possible. This is a critical communication tool for us at all times.

Students have adapted really quickly to the new Mobile Phone policy. There have been no issues with the implementation of the new policy so I congratulate both students and families for their cooperation.

Please keep reminding your children to get to school on time. We will maintain our commitment on eliminating lateness as much as possible but need your support. This will continue throughout the term. Equally, we are concerned at the time some students are dropped off at school. Yard duty for teachers does not begin until 8:40 am. Please keep this is mind especially when we move out of daylight savings and into the darker wintry mornings. Breakfast Club is available on Tuesdays & Thursdays beginning at 8:15 am so you can encourage your children to attend this prior to school on those days.

Some upcoming and important dates:

-              School Photos are taking place on Monday 17th February. Notes/forms have been handed out to students. If these have been lost, please speak to the front office.

-              Our whole-school Athletics Carnival is being held on our Secondary Campus on Wednesday 4th March. Primary students will walk down during the morning sessions with their teachers.

Thank you for your support. Have a lovely weekend.

Bill.
