Aboriginal Dance Workshops

Aboriginal Dance Workshops
On Monday 8 March 19 Koori students headed to Orange High School to participate in an Aboriginal Dance Workshop. This is hosted by the ARTS Unit alongside Bangarra Dance Company. It’s a fabulous opportunity for the students to develop skills and further their understanding of dance.
This workshop also doubled as an audition for the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble. Last year both Imajen James and Jesse Murray were selected and participated in a wide range of events including performances at the Opera House and as featured artists in the Schools Spectacular. This year, 9 students have been shortlisted for the ensemble. A big congratulations to Imajen James, Lowanna Murray, Tayah Burns, Ebony Ingram, Jaylee Dunn, Jesse Murray, Bobby Jeffries, Leroy Murray and Ryan Carroll. We look forward to hearing more in May.
A big thank you to Don Garling who drove the bus, and a huge thank you to Beatrice Murray who works with our dancers weekly.
Talented Artist
Congratulations to Jemima Sullivan who was accepted into the Dobell Drawing School at the National Art School (NAS), Sydney.
This year up to 100 Year 11 students from government schools have been offered the opportunity of a unique experience – to work in a tertiary institution in programs conducted by NAS staff, all of whom are practising artists.
The criteria for selecting students included a demonstrated high level of knowledge and skills in visual arts; a commitment and involvement in studying visual arts; and a capacity to work independently and with others over extended periods. Jemima will spend a week at the National Art School during the upcoming holidays in April.
