Principal's Report

Principal's Report

Last Friday I had the pleasure of visiting Year 7 students at Wyangala where they were taking part in our annual Year 7 camp. I was pleased to hear from the staff, the Year 11 peer support leaders and Year 7 themselves that they were learning a great deal about healthy friendships, each other and themselves. Of course Year 7 were also having a great time with the climbing wall, trampolines and the other fun activities the staff had planned.

It was fascinating talking to the Year 11 peer support leaders and hearing them make similar comments about Year 7 that I heard from their peer support leaders 5 years ago. I thank the staff and the peer support leaders for the great deal of time and energy they have put into the camp to make it so memorable for Year 7.

On Thursday last week we had 17 students representing Cowra High at the Western swimming carnival. I congratulate each one in reaching the standard required to qualify for this event, a great achievement in itself. A special congratulation to the 14 of the 17 who have qualified to represent the Western Region at state level. Our competitors were:  Lucy Wilson, Georgia Lewis, Jade Te Weehi, Jade Browne, Matthew Dun, Lochie Wilson, Abbie Lewis, Chelsea Apps, Lucy Sutherland, Caitlyn Boswell, Finn Ryan, Sam Dun, Pat Dun, Bobby Jeffries, Claire Lewis, Jacob Haeata & Zachary Olbourne.

In August we will have a biannual short visit from our sister school Seikei High. This is a very special event for both Seikei High and Cowra High. The value our sister school places on the opportunity for Seikei High students to have a brief experience of the Australian life style should not be underestimated. Neither should the value our students gain from sharing their lifestyle with an international student. The arrangement is also reciprocated when Cowra High students visit Japan for our short stays. I am speaking of this now to firstly thank those families who have kindly opened their home to our visitors, this is very greatly appreciated. Yet we still are in need of more families willing to share their home for 10 nights. If our long standing relationship with Seikei High is to continue to grow, we need to also share our wonderful lifestyle in the way our Seikei families so generously look after our students when we visit Japan. If you are interested in hosting a student for the short stay, please contact Megan Perkins on 6342 1766.

Have a great fortnight
