Class Projects

Stage 5 History
Mr Kerr’s History class put the use of child labour on trial last week at Cowra High School.
As part of their unit on the Industrial Revolution, students took on the roles of lawyers, witnesses or jury members to argue if the factory owner Titus Salt should be found guilty of child endangerment for allowing children to work in his factory.
Despite a worthy defence lead by Sam Long, Luke Wilson and Sean Smith, the prosecution took the victory. Their combination of sound preparation, explosive evidence to contradict some witnesses and an outstanding ability to challenge some damning testimony saw Lucy Pattingale and Nicola Carter win the case.
Year 8 Maths
"Design a game that does not already exist and involves probability." That was the brief given to the Year 8 AES Maths students in the last fortnight!
The result was a fun lesson where students got to play the games designed by others in the class.
Students had to provide comprehensive instructions on how to play and a full analysis of the probability found in their game. Great imaginations!
Year 8 Science Filter Project
Year 8 science students were asked to design a filter using material they had at home, and were given 25mL of muddy water to filter. The students compared their filtrate with three samples and then measured the volume of water collected. They were awarded marks for how clear the water was and the volume.
