Grow Wellbeing 2021

Last year we accessed the Grow Wellbeing Program which is a service to support positive Mental Health and academic skills. This was very successful in supporting families and students in 2020. Please see the attached information and consider the application which includes a Mental Health Care Plan from your General Practitioner. All applications can be returned to your class teacher or you can scan and email it to:

 Mike.Tarleton884@schools.sa.edu.au

It will then be forwarded to Grow Wellbeing who will contact families directly.

'Grow Wellbeing is an early intervention Mental Health Wellbeing service committed to supporting school children and families in the development of positive Mental Health and academic skills. Children have many positive qualities and strengths, and at times may benefit from extra support in Mental Health Wellbeing to maximise academic performance and home functioning.

At Grow Wellbeing we work with schools to provide Psychologists, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists who have expertise and experience working with children, adults and families. We work closely with school personnel, and the parent/guardian to provide quality targeted support for children who receive our in-school support.'

Active Lunch

This week, we have started our Active Lunch activities in the Gym. We have many amazing students who volunteer their time to support our Active Ambassadors.

Mondays & Fridays - Fisher Students

Tuesdays - Mellor Students

Wednesdays - Mellor/Torrens Students

Thursdays - Torrens Students

The activities will change throughout the year, but this term we currently have Basketball, Dodgeball and mini obstacle courses.

We also have a group of amazing Year 4/5 student leaders (Mollie, Ayla, Sofia, Maya, Varsha, Rose, Ambrosia, Penelope and Ruby) who are volunteering their time to have a silent disco for Mellor Students on the stage on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

As part of our High Flyers Program, our Senior Students are beginning to organise other clubs and activities, one of which started on Tuesday for our Reception Students. The primary focus of all these activities is to help get students more active, as this supports students with both their physical and mental health and general wellbeing at school.

'Exercise has many benefits, not only for your physical health but also your mental health. In your brain, exercise stimulates chemicals that improve your mood and the parts of the brain responsible for memory and learning.'

Our Active Ambassadors embrace our LNPS Values of Respect, Care and Concern, Honesty, and Pursuit of Excellence and have developed high expectations for student behaviour in the gym. Even with adult supervision in the Gym, our Ambassadors lead this initiative and they will continue their wonderful work throughout 2021, so please encourage your children to head to the Gym to participate.

Many thanks,

Mike
