Cricket
School Cricket Round 1 LNPS v Portside Christian - B Grade.
We kickstarted the second part of the cricket season, this time with only one B Grade team, as we have lost a few players. Molly has moved on to high school and Hayley is doing other things.
This term we have Brendon, Kobe, Curtis, Murray, Mitchell, Ethan, Noah (from Brompton Primary), Jasper, Cooper, Riley and Josh.
At one stage rain delayed play and there was some mention of the Duckworth Lewis, but we soldiered on and, luckily for us, the rain cleared. Noah and Riley were away. Murray was Captain and Josh was Vice Captain..
Portside went into bat first and Kobe bowled a hat trick to start us off! He followed that with a single, a dot ball and another wicket. What a great start! Three wickets in the first three balls had Portside a little worried. Jasper also had a hat trick in one of his overs, and in total we took 16 wickets.
Murray and Jasper opened the batting for us, followed by Cooper, Brendon, Josh, Kobe, Mitchell, Ethan and Curtis. Unfortunately Ethan retired hurt after facing 9 balls, so Curtis got to face a few extra balls and Kobe in as the runner.
Here is what the scoresheet looked like:
Portside | LNPS | |
Runs off the bat | 72 | 68 |
Wides | 15 | 14 |

School Cricket Round 3 LNPS v Grange Blue - B Grade.
On Saturday 28/2/21 LNPS B Grade played against Grange Blue at the LNPS oval. Playing this week was Jasper, Cooper, Mitchell, Murray, Riley, Brendon (co-Captain), Josh, Ethan, and Noah (Co-captain, from Brompton PS). Our bowling had really improved this week, with not many Wides or No Balls.
Grange Blue went in to bat first, with Jasper keeping for the first 10 overs and Riley for the second 10. The ground was a bit damp, so we were happy for them to bat first.
LNPS went in to bat for the second half of the game. By then the moisture on the grass had dried and by the 10th over there was only 1 run different compared to the 10 over mark for Grange Blue.
I learnt a new rule that I wasn’t aware of, thanks to the experienced umpire and scorer. Apparently if the last ball of the game is a dead-ball and it hits the batters leg, it is considered a dot ball, instead of being rebowled.
Here are the results from the game.
Grange Blue | LNPS | |
Runs off the bat | 62 | 56 |
Byes | 0 | 0 |
Leg Byes | 0 | 0 |
Wides | 6 | 15 |
No Balls | 6 | 13 |
Bonus runs for wickets taken (wickets x 4) | 36 | 40 |
Total | 110 | 124 |
Another win for LNPS!
Stats for Round 2:
Name | Runs | Wickets |
Murray | 6 | 0 |
Jasper | 19 | 2 |
Cooper | 5 | 1 |
Brendon | 14 | 2 |
Josh | 2 | 0 |
Kobe (didn’t play) | ||
Mitchell | 1 | 1 |
Ethan | 4 | 1 |
Curtis (didn’t play) | ||
Noah | 4 | 1 |
Riley | 1 | 2 |
B Grade Modified rules include:
Oval is 40m radius from batters end.
The game is 20 overs (120 balls)
The 120 balls are divided amongst the number of players. For example, if you have 8 players they will face 15 balls each. Players don’t get ‘out’, but when a wicket is taken, the batters swap ends. Each wicket counts as 4 bonus runs for the fielding team.
All overs are bowled from the same end.
All fielders get to bowl. One fielder will act as wicket keeper for the first 10 overs and then swap with another fielder for the remaining 10 overs.
Pitch is 16m wicket to wicket.
No balls, Byes, Leg Byes and Wides (otherwise known as Extras) are not rebowled, but added as runs to the batting team’s score and not to the batters’ individual run score. Only dead balls are rebowled.
There is no LBW (Leg Before Wicket) in B Grade.
The game is played with a smaller and softer cricket ball than what the adults use.
The use of helmets for the batters is compulsory.
Our next game is on Saturday 13/3/21 is another home game against Le Fevre Peninsula. Quite a few of our players will be attending ACER testing that day, so the remaining players will have a chance to face more balls when it is their turn to bat.
Good cricketing!
