Harmony Day 12th March

What a great day of celebrations

Dear Families of St. John Vianney’s,

Harmony Day – Friday, March 12, 2021

PSALM 133:1

How wonderful it is, how pleasant, for God’s people to live together in harmony!

On Friday 12th March, Harmony Day, the students participated in the celebration of our wonderfully multicultural school and country. Students were excited to come in their traditional dress or with a touch of orange, the colour of harmony. Orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations, and it relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.

To celebrate Harmony Day, students participated in many different activities. They took part in Yulunga: Traditional Indigenous Games in which the students of all year levels had to work together. They created a feather artwork, which will be displayed soon. The student also took part in a session called 'Our cultural classroom' in which they were encouraged to find out more about the different cultures that make up our SJV community.

During our Harmony Day Liturgy, students reflected on the importance of being voices of tomorrow, as well as being respectful, understanding and most of all, embracing of other cultures than their own.

During the afternoon our students, who had focused so well during their FOOTSTEPS dance incursion over the previous three Tuesday mornings, presented their cultural-based dances to their peers with great enthusiasm. The dance moves from Brazil, Sri Lanka and Hawaii delighted all those who looked on. Well done to everyone involved. What a great way to celebrate diversity!

We would like to thank all the teachers and staff of SJV for all their hard work during and in preparation for Harmony Day.

To the students: 'we are one but we are many.' Thank you for celebrating the day with us.

Kind Regards,
